Panthers Edge Tar Heels at Home, 7-6

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh softball team defeated North Carolina, 7-6, at home Friday evening in game one of its four game series.
NEWS & NOTES
North Carolina's Brittany Pickett hit a solo homer to right to give the Tar Heels a 3-2 lead in the top of the second, but Pitt answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Compson singled down the left field line to score sophomore EC Taylor and Seamans hit a three-run home run over the scoreboard in left field. Pitt led, 6-3, after two.
The Tar Heels scored one run in the top of the third and two runs in the top of the fifth to tie it, 6-6. The Panthers regained by scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth, as graduate student Walker Barbee reached on an error, scoring Seamans from second base. Redshirt senior Brittany Knight pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and striking out two as she kept the Tar Heels at bay for her second win of the season.
The series continues tomorrow with a double-header, with game one starting at 1 p.m. and game two at 5 p.m. Game one will be live on the ACCNX, with game two on the ACC Network.
NEWS & NOTES
- Junior Sarah Seamans went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI. It is her third four RBI game of the season.
- Freshman Cami Compson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and two walks. The multi-hit game is her fourth in the past seven games.
