
Pitt Gymnastics Drops First of Three Meetings With West Virginia

Coca Makes First Floor, All-Around Performances
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt gymnastics team (5-9-1) fell in the first of three consecutive meetings with West Virginia (1-6, 0-6 Big 12) in the Backyard Brawl rivalry series Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Mountaineers earned the team win by a score of 195.900-194.175.
Two Panthers earned individual event victories: sophomore Emily Liszewski had a career day on vault, winning the event with a 9.875. Junior Olivia Miller topped the all-around competition by tying her career-high score of 39.050. Miller last earned the score as a freshman, in the first meet of her career, on Jan. 12, 2019.
Katrina Coca made her career debut on both floor exercise and the all-around, earning a 9.700 and a 38.800, respectively.
Pitt's team score of 48.950 on floor exercise was a season-high mark on the event for the Panthers.
VAULT
Competing with five gymnasts, Liszewski led the way with a career-high vault score of 9.875. Senior Jordan Ceccarini tied her season-best mark of 9.750, which is also the score Miller recorded. Sophomore Lauren Beckwith produced a season-high tying 9.725, and Coca rounded out the group with a 9.700. Pitt ended the first rotation with a team score of 48.800.
BARS
Heading into another rotation of five gymnasts, Coca paced Pitt with a 9.800 to place second overall on uneven bars. Freshman Trinity Macy produced a 9.725, followed by Miller (9.675), Beckwith (9.450) and junior Caitlyn Kline (9.250). Pitt added a 47.900 to its two-rotation score of 96.700.
BEAM
Beckwith tied for third place overall with Pitt's top balance beam score of 9.825. Miller followed with a season-best 9.775. Ceccarini (9.700) was next, along with Macy (9.625) and Coca (9.600) to round out scoring for the Panthers. Pitt totaled 48.525 on beam to bring its three-event score to 145.225.
FLOOR
Pitt earned a season-best floor score of 48.950, thanks to a few milestone scores. Miller placed third overall with a season-high tying 9.850, and Macy earned a career-best 9.775. Ceccarini produced a 9.825, and Beckwith contributed a 9.800. Coca completed scoring for Pitt with her career debut in the event, earning a 9.700. The Panthers finished the day with a score of 194.175.
ALL-AROUND
For the first time this season, three Panthers competed in the all-around competition. Miller won the contest with a career-high tying 39.050, followed by both Beckwith and Coca who each score 38.800. It was Coca's debut as an all-around competitor.
