Four Panthers Earn Individual Wins
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt gymnastics team (6-9-1) earned a win in the Backyard Brawl rivalry against West Virginia (2-7, 0-6 Big 12) on Senior Night Friday at Fitzgerald Field House.
After falling to the Mountaineers in the last meeting on March 5, Pitt responded with a win by scores of 195.100-194.675. Pitt's 195.100 is its highest score since its season-best total of 195.700 recorded on Jan. 31 against NC State and Towson.
The rubber match is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
The Panthers tied their season-best score on floor exercise at 48.950.
Four Panthers earned individual event victories, including junior Olivia Miller who earned career highs on uneven bars (9.900) and the all-around (39.250). Lauren Beckwith, Jordan Ceccarini and Katrina Coca tied for the win on balance beam, each scoring 9.825.
Following the meet, Pitt honored seniors Sophie Bochenek, Haley Brechwald, Ceccarini, Coca and Kailey Gillings.
VAULT
Sophomore Ciara Ward led Pitt with a 9.775 to place third in the event. Sophomore Emily Liszewski was next with a 9.750, then Miller with a 9.725. Ceccarini and Coca each contributed a 9.700. Coca's score was a season high. Pitt totaled 48.650 for the first rotation.
BARS
Three Panthers earned career highs on bars, led by Miller's 9.900 to win the event. Freshman Trinity Macy had a 9.850, and junior Caitlyn Kline contributed a 9.400. Coca posted a 9.850, and Beckwith rounded out scoring with a 9.725. The Panthers had a team score of 48.725 on bars to bring their two-rotation score to 97.375.
BEAM
Three from Pitt had season highs, with three also tying for the event win. Beckwith, Ceccarini and Coca each recorded 9.825 to win the event. Ceccarini (9.825), Miller (9.800) and sophomore Christina Weiss (9.325) each recorded season highs on beam. It was Weiss's season debut on the event. Macy posted a 9.500 to complete scoring. Pitt had a 48.775 on beam to total 146.150.
FLOOR
Miller led the way with a 9.825 on floor, while Coca (9.775) and Macy (9.800) each posted career-best scores. Beckwith and Liszewski each recorded scores of 9.775, while Ceccarini ended the meet with a 9.725 to bring Pitt's floor score to 48.950 – tying a season high.
ALL-AROUND
All three Panthers who competed in the all-around earned career-best scores, led by Miller (39.250), then Coca (39.150) and Beckwith (39.000).
