BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team defeated FIU, 4-1, Friday afternoon in day two of the FAU Parents Weekend Tournament at FAU Softball Stadium.

NEWS & NOTES

Junior starting pitcher Abby Edwards threw her second straight complete game, allowing six hits, one earned and striking out six batters and allowing zero walks. In her last two starts, Edwards has struck out nine batters, allowed one earned run and has walked zero batters in 14 innings pitched. She improved her record to 2-0 on the year.
Freshman Cami Compson went 2-for-3 with a home run, her second of the season. She leads the team with a .321 batting average and a .607 slugging percentage.
Senior Hunter Levesque hit her first homerun of the season, going 1-for-3 with a RBI.

FIU (5-9) recorded the first run of the game in the bottom of the second and took an early 1-0 lead. Both teams were held scoreless in the third and fourth innings, before Pitt (6-8) tied it back up at 1-1. Compson led off the top of the fifth with a homerun to left center, her second of the season. After two straight fly outs, senior LoLo Sanchez doubled to left field and Taylor brought her in with a RBI single up the middle to give the Panthers the lead, 2-1.

In the top of the sixth, Levesque cranked a solo shot to left field for her first homer of the season and 18^th of her career, putting Pitt up 3-1. The Panthers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, as Taylor doubled to centerfield to bring in Sanchez for a 4-1 advantage.

Edwards threw a complete game with six strikeouts and zero walks allowed. She improved to 2-0 on the season.

Pitt concludes the FAU Parents Weekend Tournament tomorrow at 10 a.m. with Illinois State.
