Panthers Hosting for First Time Since 2016
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh will host the 2021 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship at Petersen Events Center Saturday, March 20, as announced by the conference Thursday.
"Hosting the EAGL Championship is an exciting opportunity for our gymnastics program and we are thrilled to bring the event back to Pittsburgh," Heather Lyke, Director of Athletics said. "With the last year presenting so many challenges, we're grateful to provide these elite student-athletes the chance to compete in a conference championship after more than a year. I would like to thank Senior Associate Athletic Director Jennifer Tuscano, Head Coach Samantha Snider, as well as our staff for their effort in putting together this memorable event. It will be an exciting day for everyone involved."
In conjunction with the league's expansion from six to eight teams in 2021, the championship format will feature two quad-meet sessions, with the first to be held at 1 p.m. ET, and the second at 7 p.m. ET.
Each team's session designation (1 or 2) will depend on final conference standings (1 through 8), which will be determined by National Qualifying Scores (NQS) at the conclusion of the regular season.
"We are thrilled to be hosting the 2021 EAGL Championship at the Petersen Events Center, and we're looking forward to providing a first-class championship experience for our student-athletes," Snider said. "All the teams in the EAGL conference are strong this year, which means the championship meet will feature some exciting competition."
Both sessions will be streamed live on ESPN3, available through the ESPN app.
