Pitt Sets School Record for Wins (11) with 4-1 Home Blowout of Kentucky

PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's soccer (11-5-0) broke the school record for most wins in a regular season with a 4-1 blowout victory over Kentucky (1-6-3) Monday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Panthers surpassed the 1995 team (10-7-1) for the program record, despite playing in two less games.

Four Panthers scored in the victory with Amanda West assisting on all but one. Emily Yaple notched the first goal in the 33rd minute. Yaple took a pass from West, squeezed through two defenders in the box and lifted a shot over the goalkeeper's arms into the top left corner of the net.

Celia Lopez doubled the Panthers' lead in the 42nd minute with her first goal of the season. Lopez lofted a shot from the right side of the box into the left side of the net from a feed by West.

The third goal came in the 58th minute. After a shot was saved at the goal line from a corner kick, the Panthers regained possession. Athalie Palomo sent a cross into the middle of the box, Kate McKay headed it over to Leah Pais and Pais tucked a volley into the left bar.

Scoring two goals in her Panthers' debut in the City Game on March 7, Landy Mertz continued her goal-scoring streak. In the 85th minute, West dribbled deep into the left side of the box and fed a cross that found its way to Mertz, who smacked a shot off the crossbar and into the net.

NEWS AND NOTES

West tied for the second-most assists in a single-game in program history, which she did before against Miami on Sept. 29, 2019.
The five team assists tied for the seventh-most.
West pushed her single-season points record by a Panther to 33 and tied Liz Carroll (2012) for fifth-most assists (seven) in a year.
Pitt dominated possession total 67% to 33%.
Caitlyn Lazzarini (4-3-0) made five saves.
Pitt had the huge advantage in corner kicks (7-1) and the edge in shots (13-11).
Mertz had a game-high four shots, and Palomo placed both of her shots on goal.
