Pitt Drops Two at Home Against Syracuse

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped two decisions Saturday afternoon at home against Syracuse, falling 7-4 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two.

GAME ONE
Syracuse (9-9, 5-6 ACC) scored twice in the top of the first to leadoff game number one with a 2-0 advantage. The Panthers (9-17, 4-12 ACC) answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, as senior Morgan Batesole drove in sophomore EC Taylor and later scored after advancing home after a throw down to second.

Pitt took its first lead of the game (3-2) courtesy of junior Sarah Seamans' solo home run to center in the bottom of the second. The homer was her team-leading sixth of the season. The Orange tied the game up at 3-3 via sacrifice fly from Lailoni Mayfield in the next half inning.

Senior Hunter Levesque again gave Pitt a one run lead (4-3) in the bottom of the third with a sharp single to left, bringing in Batesole. Syracuse answered in the top of the fourth, as Calista Almer doubled to right center, bringing in the tying run.

The Orange scored three unanswered runs in the ensuing three innings, including two runs in the top of the fifth and one run in the sixth to lead, 7-4. Syracuse held on to win by the same score.

Batesole went 2-for-3 with a triple, a RBI, two runs and one walk. Seamans finished 2-for-2 with a home run a RBI and one run, while Levesque went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

GAME TWO
The Orange registered three runs in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. Syracuse scored one run in the second, three runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to lead, 8-0, after six and a half innings. Pittsburgh could not tack on a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Cami Compson went 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles.

Pitt concludes the four game series tomorrow at a newly designated time of 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 12 p.m. but has been pushed back due to rain in the forecast.
