No. 14 Pitt Hosts Bucknell for Home Opener

PITTSBURGH – No. 14 Pitt baseball (11-5, 8-4 ACC) faces Bucknell (4-6, 4-3 Patriot League) Wednesday at 3 p.m. for its 2021 home-opener at Charles L. Cost Field.

- The Pennsylvania limits on capacity are set at 15% for indoor venues until April 3, 2021. Attendance at Pitt Athletic events is currently limited to families, friends and guests of the student-athletes. Tickets will not be sold for these events.

HIGHEST RANKING IN PROGRAM HISTORY
- Pitt recorded its highest-ever ranking in program history, garnering the No. 14 slot in the Baseball America Poll released Monday.
- The Panthers are ranked in the top-20 all five major polls: DIBaseball.com (No. 15), Collegiate Baseball (No. 18), USA TODAY Sports Coaches' Poll (No. 18) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (No. 20).
- Last week Pitt debuted in the top-25 nationally for the first time since May 13, 2013 with selections in the polls by DIBaseball.com (No. 18) and Baseball America (No. 19). The rankings are the first since joining the ACC for the 2014 season.
- The last team to be ranked at all, the 2013 Panthers' squad was ranked as high as 16th by Collegiate Baseball on May 13, 2013.
- With the series win over the Cavaliers this past weekend, the Panthers wrapped up a 16-game streak away from home with four ACC weekend series to start the season with an 11-5 overall record and 8-4 league mark that ties North Carolina and Georgia Tech atop the Coastal Division. Pitt has recorded its best start 12 games into league action.
LAST TIME OUT-AT (RV) VIRGINIA
- Pitt won the first two games 2-1 and 6-2 for its third road ACC series win and first wins as a ranked ACC team.
- Mitch Myers threw his first complete game as a Panther, allowing just one run and three hits with five strikeouts in 105 pitches.
- Myers threw the first complete game as a Panther since former first-round pick T.J. Zeuch went the distance in a 6-5 win at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2016.
- After giving the leadoff batter a hit in the first inning of the second game, Matt Gilbertson retired the next 16 batters. He finished with five strikeouts, five hits, two runs and no walks in eight innings pitched.
- David Yanni had two homers in the series for his team-leading seventh, and Nico Popa recorded his fifth of the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT-BUCKNELL
- Playing all but one game in the Keystone State this season, Bucknell dropped series to La Salle and Lehigh and then rebounded with three wins in four games against Army at home this past weekend.
- The Bison were picked in a tie for fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- All-preseason pick junior outfielder Chris Cannizzaro leads the team in total bases (19) and is tied for the most hits (10).
- Sophomore infielder/outfielder Henry Novicki has a team-best .920 OPS with two homers and two doubles.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Pitt leads the series 22-12.
- The Keystone State schools have played just twice since 1991: both neutral site victories for the Panthers (5-4 on March 13, 1999 and 8-2 on Feb. 24, 2019).
