Already earning the series win over the Cavaliers, the Panthers wrapped up a 16-game streak away from home with four ACC weekend series to start the season with an 8-4 league record that ties North Carolina and Georgia Tech atop the Coastal Division. Pitt has recorded its best start 12 games into league action.
The Cavaliers pulled away with a four-run inning in the seventh inning on a two-run double and two-run homer.
The Panthers scored first, as David Yanni hit a one-out homer to right field, his seventh of the year.

The Cavaliers took the lead the next inning. With no one on and two outs, an error allowed a hitter to reach base. Virginia took advantage with two doubles and a single afterward for three unearned runs and then got another run in its next trip to the plate on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Pitt cut its deficit down to one in the fifth inning, taking advantage of mistakes this time by Virginia. Brock Franks led off with a single, and Sky Duff doubled to left center. With two outs, a throwing error by the third baseman allowed Franks and Duff to both score.
The Panthers tied it up in the sixth inning. Samuel Frontino led off with a double to left center and scored on a two-out single up the middle by Franks.
The Panthers return to Pittsburgh for their home-opener against Bucknell Wednesday at 3 p.m.

- Franks had a game-high three hits, including a double.
