Pitt Falls to No. 18/16 Virginia Tech Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped the final game of its four-game series with No. 18/16 Virginia Tech, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Tech Softball Park.
Virginia Tech (15-4, 10-4 ACC) won games one, three and four. Pitt (9-14, 4-9, ACC) won game two of the series Saturday afternoon.
The Hokies recorded one run in the bottom of the first and one run in the bottom of the third, taking a 2-0 lead after three innings. Junior starting pitcher Abby Edwards kept the Hokie offense at bay the rest of the game, but the Panther offense could not get a run across.
Freshman Cami Compson finished 1-for-3 with a single. Edwards threw a complete game – her fifth straight – allowing five hits, two earned and striking out five batters.
Pitt is back in action Friday, Mar. 26 at home for a four-game series with Syracuse. Friday's home game starts at 4 p.m., and will be the first home game for the Panthers at Vartabedian Field since May 5, 2019. Live coverage will be on the ACCNX.
