PITTSBURGH – No. 18 Pitt baseball (9-4, 6-3) plays a three-game series at (RV) Virginia (8-8, 2-7) beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 2 p.m.

RANKED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ACC
- Pitt baseball debuted in the top-25 nationally for the first time since May 13, 2013 with selections in the polls by DIBaseball.com (No. 18) and Baseball America (No. 19). The rankings are the first since joining the ACC for the 2014 season.
- Starting the season at 9-4 overall with all 13 games away from home, the Panthers are off to its best start in ACC play at 6-3 and tied for first place in the league's Coastal Division with North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
- The No. 18 ranking by DIBaseball is tied for the fourth-highest ranking in program history and its first ever ranking in the poll. The No. 19 ranking is the highest-ever in Baseball America's Poll.
- Pitt is also receiving the most votes in the USA TODAY Coaches' Poll for teams outside of the top-25 and slotted at No. 28 by Collegiate Baseball.
- The Panthers were last ranked after coming off of a weekend sweep of Villanova and its 40th victory of the season. That team was ranked as high as No. 16th Collegiate Baseball and was previously 17th by the same poll in the previous two weeks.
LAST TIME OUT-AT NO. 7 GEORGIA TECH
- Pitt won its season ACC road series at a top-10 team with two wins at then-No. 7 Georgia Tech last weekend.
- The Panthers scored seven runs in the ninth inning for an 11-9 comeback win Friday and then stormed out to an 11-0 lead Sunday and eventually won 18-12.
- Through three ACC weekends of play, Pitt is off to its best start at 6-3 since joining the league in the 2014 season.
- For the time in league play, they have won two series against ranked teams.
- The highest ranked team in the conference heading into the weekend, Georgia Tech had a 12-home and ACC series winning streaks that dated back to March 2019 snapped.
- The 18 runs and 17 RBI's were the most against an ACC opponent and the most since scoring 26 off 26 RBI against Maryland Eastern Shore on May 1, 2019.
- Pitt recorded a season-high of 19 hits in both wins.
- Eight of the 19 hits were for extra-bases, including a season-high four homers.
- The four home runs were the most in any ACC game.
- Stephen Hansen (1-0) picked up his first win as a Panther in the start on Sunday.
- The Panthers have won every series-finale this season, taking the rubber match 10-1 in the opening weekend against Indiana State in Port Charlotte, Fla., defeating then-No. 9 Florida State 9-7 in 13 innings two week-ends ago and rallying for a 5-4 win at Duke last Sunday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT-(RV) VIRGINIA
- Virginia sits in last place in the coastal division at 2-7 with road series losses at North Carolina and Florida State and a sweep at home to Notre Dame.
- The Cavaliers combined for a one-hit shutout (5-0) over Towson at home Wednesday and have outscored non-conference opponents at home 38-19.
- Junior infielder Zack Gelof leads the team in slugging percentage (.414) and on-base percentage (.431) with a team-high nine walks and nine RBIs.
- Senior pitcher Andrew Abbott leads the ACC in strikeouts (36) while senior pitcher Griff McGarry (31) is third, and junior pitcher Mike Vasil ranks third in the ACC in ERA (1.83).
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Virginia leads the series 19-5 and won 14 of 18 ACC matchups.
- The Cavaliers have won all seven games played in Charlottesville, Va.
UP NEXT
- Pitt begins a 16-game homestand with its season-opener at Charles L. Cost Field next Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Bucknell.
