Pitt Drops Series Finale at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team fell to Georgia Tech, 11-4, at Mewborn Field Sunday afternoon.
NEWS & NOTES
Georgia Tech (8-15, 3-11 ACC) got one run back in the bottom of the first, as Emma Kauf hit a RBI triple to left center, making it a 2-1 ballgame.
A pitcher's duel ensued for the next three innings. Junior Abby Edwards recorded five strikeouts through four innings and registered back-to-back innings with a strikeout to end the frame. The Yellow Jackets gained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, as four runs scored for a 5-2 game after five innings.
Senior Walker Barbee reached on an error in the top of the sixth, and Lane hit a two-run homerun to left to get Pitt within one run (5-4). Georgia Tech answered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and took an 11-4 advantage into the final inning. Pitt, who scored eight runs in the final frame the night prior, couldn't repeat that performance as a one, two, three inning ended the game.
The Panthers are back in action Friday, Mar. 19 at nationally ranked Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. Pitt will play four games against the Hokies Friday through Sunday with coverage on the ACCNX.
NEWS & NOTES
- With the loss, Pitt split the four game series with the Yellow Jackets. The Panthers enter next weekend 8-11 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
- Sophomore Kayla Lane went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a homerun Sunday. The homer was the second of the series and second of her career.
- Junior Katlyn Pavlick hit her fifth double of the season. She finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
