WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior right side hitter Chinaza Ndee led 22nd-ranked Pitt volleyball team (8-4, 7-4 ACC) to its fourth consecutive win with 11 kills in a sweep of Wake Forest (0-9, 0-8 ACC) Friday night at LJVM Coliseum.
The Panthers picked up the win by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-22. Pitt had the advantage in kills (39-30), assists (37-26), service aces (8-2), digs (29-20) and hitting percentage (.309-.173.). The Demon Deacons recorded more blocks (10.0-8.0).
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valeria Vazquez Gomez recorded a career-high three aces, all coming in the first set. She added six kills for the Panthers.
Junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks posted five kills and five blocks, including three solos.
Junior utility player Jordan Lockwood recorded seven kills on .462 hitting to go along with three blocks.
Senior outside hitter Kayla Lund had a near double-double with six kills and a team-best nine digs.
Redshirt senior setter Kylee Levers had 17 assists, while sophomore Lexis Akeo contributed 13.
Set One: No. 22 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 12
Some aggressive serving by the Panthers made for a quick first frame, with six aces highlighting the set. The Panthers hit a scorching .526 while holding the Demon Deacons to a .174 clip. Ndee had four kills to start the match.
Set Two: No. 22 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 19
The Panthers held Wake Forest to a .037 clip and just eight kills in the second frame. Pitt captains Ndee and Lund each recorded four kills to lead the Panthers.
Set Three: No. 22 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 22
The third frame was much closer than the first two, despite a quick start from Pitt. Wake Forest took a 15-3 lead following a 5-0 run and held the lead until Pitt was able to tie the set at 19. The Demon Deacons answered with two points (21-19). A 4-0 run gave the Panthers the advantage again, and ultimately ended the match on a 6-1 run.
