PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Pitt baseball dropped its season-opener 4-0 to Indiana State in the Snowbird Classic Friday afternoon at Centennial Park. The Panthers were limited to just six hits in the loss.

Indiana State scored all four runs in the first two innings. The Sycamores took the lead with a two-run homer in the first inning that was followed by a two-out RBI-single. In the next inning, Indiana State got its last run on another one-run single.

Game two of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m.

NOTES

Dylan Lester threw three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts, two hits and no walks.
Mitch Myers started and went five innings with nine strikeouts, eight hits, three earned runs and one walk.
Chris Gomez produced the last three outs and allowed one hit that was followed by a double play and a strikeout.
Kyle Hess and Riley Wash both had two hits, and David Yanni also had a double.
Graduate transfer Matt Tarabek (Fordham) started in his first game as a Panther at third base.
The Panthers had just three runners reach scoring position.
