Pitt Announces Nonconference Schedule

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh baseball has added 14 nonconference games, head coach Mike Bell announced Friday. Pitt will play a total of 50 games, including 27 at Charles L. Cost Field, for the 2020 season with the previously announced 12 ACC weekend series.
"We are extremely excited to get this season started, and we know this will be like no other season that this program has ever seen," Bell said. "Starting off with a 13-day road trip with a regional finalist (Indiana St) from two years ago to rolling into four consecutive ranked weekend conference opponents, we are truly looking forward to the challenges ahead. I've always said we want to play our best baseball at the end of the season, and these challenges ahead can help prepare us for championship baseball."
With the addition of a home and away series against No. 14 West Virginia, Pitt is scheduled to play more than half of its games (26) this season against opponents that have been ranked in the top-20 by at least one of the major preseason polls: No. 2 Louisville, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 Miami, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 NC State, No. 15 Georgia Tech, No. 16 Duke and No. 17 Wake Forest.
Déjà vu in Florida: Indiana State (Feb. 19-21), Jacksonville (Feb. 23)
Pitt opens the season just like in 2020 with Indiana State in the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte. Last year the Panthers defeated the Sycamores 11-1. Indiana State still returns many key players from its 2019 team that won two games in the NCAA Regionals and finished 23rd in the final RPI rankings. Pitt stays in the Sunshine State to play Jacksonville in its first midweek game before opening ACC play in the second weekend of the season at Florida State.
Backyard Brawl: West Virginia (April 6 and May 5)
The local rivalry with the Mountaineers resumes. WVU has made the NCAA Regionals twice in the last three years of the tournament, including serving as hosts in 2019 as the No. 15 seed.
Home Opener and Other Home Midweek Action: Bucknell (March 24), Lipscomb (April 13-14), Akron (May 18)
Pitt plays its first home-opener against Bucknell that begins a 16-game homestand. Included in the home stretch is a two-game matchup against Lipscomb and then later a game against Akron.
ACC Bye Weekend: Northern Kentucky (April 30-May 2)
The second weekend of the spring with no ACC action schedule, the Panthers will face the Norse four times. The matchup will be the first-ever between the two programs.
