No. 21 Pitt Wrestling to Participate in Illinois MatMen Open

PITTSBURGH—Several members of the University of Pittsburgh wrestling program will be in action on Wednesday and Thursday (Dec. 29-30) at the Illinois MatMen Open – a replacement event for the canceled Midlands Championships – at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Action from the tournament will be streamed on Rokfin via the Illinois MatMen account.
Sessions will begin at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT on both days. Quarterfinals and wrestlebacks will be held on 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, with finals and placements set for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on Thursday.
Pitt (3-2) enters this individual tournament, which serves as preparation for the conference and NCAA championships later this season, ranked No. 21 as a team in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll.
Competing individually for the Panthers in Illinois this week will be the following wrestlers:
125: No. 26 Gage Curry (6-2) and Colton Camacho (9-3)
131: No. 6 Micky Phillippi (4-1)
141: No. 24 Cole Matthews (2-1)
149: Luke Kemerer (2-3) and Dan Mancini (9-4)
157: No. 28 Elijah Cleary (3-2) and Tyler Badgett (7-4)
165: No. 8 Jake Wentzel (3-2)
174: Hunter Kernan (7-3)
184: No. 31 Gregg Harvey (1-1)
197: No. 2 Nino Bonaccorsi (3-0)
285: No. 28 Jake Slinger (6-2)
Also sending student-athletes to the impromptu Illinois MatMen Open are wrestling programs from across the nation, with the anticipated lineup of teams set to include Arizona State, Army West Point, Bloomsburg, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, Cal Poly, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Edinboro, Harvard, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Navy, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Oregon State, Penn, Princeton, Purdue, Rutgers, SIUE, Northern Iowa, Virginia, Wisconsin.
