
No. 3 Pitt Volleyball Crushes Orange, 3-0

PITTSBURGH – The No. 3 Pitt volleyball team (21-2, 11-2 ACC) earned its third consecutive sweep at home, taking down Syracuse (15-10, 4-9 ACC) in straight sets Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
Following a tight first set (25-23), the Panthers crushed the Orange by scores of 25-15 and 25-13. Pitt had the advantage across the board, in kills (51-30), assists (47-29), service aces (5-1), digs (43-34) blocks (6.5-5.0) and hitting percentage (.345-.121).
Outside hitter Leketor Member-Meneh had a near-double-double with nine kills on .444 hitting and a match-high 11 digs.
Co-captains Kayla Lund and Chinaza Ndee led the Panthers with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Middle blocker Serena Gray tied a career high with four service aces and added nine kills on .467 hitting and three blocks.
SET ONE: No. 3 Pitt 25, Syracuse 23
Syracuse took a late 22-21 lead following a 3-1 run. The Panthers answered with three consecutive points off a Lund kill and back-to-back Gray aces to gain set point (24-22). A service error made it 24-23, but another kill from Lund gave the frame to the Panthers. Lund led with five kills in the set. The teams hit at similar clips, with Syracuse at .294 and Pitt at .298.
SET TWO: No. 3 Pitt 25, Syracuse 15
Pitt used multiple long runs to gain a staggering 21-6 lead. However, following a set point for Pitt at 24-11, the Orange rattled off four consecutive points to make it 24-15. A kill from Valeria Vazquez Gomez ended the set in Pitt's favor.
SET THREE: No. 3 Pitt 25, Syracuse 13
A 12-2 run helped the Panthers cruise into a 13-5 lead. Later, a 4-0 run gave Pitt a double-figure margin, up 18-7. The Panthers stayed ahead en route to their third consecutive sweep.
