THE OPENING TIP
• Pitt returns to the Petersen Events Center to host UNC Wilmington Tuesday, Nov. 16. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with Jeff Hathhorn and Julius Page on the call on ACC Network Extra.
• The Panthers have dropped the first two games of the season for just the second time in the past 25 seasons. Pitt has not opened a season with three consecutive losses since 1996-97 campaign.
• John Hugley has scored in double figures in each of the first two games of the season. He ranks third in the ACC in scoring (22.0 ppg.), tied for 10th in rebounding (8.0 rpg.) and 15th in field goal percentage (.567).
• The Panthers are 159-12 all-time at the Petersen Events Center in non-conference play, including a 73-6 mark in the month of November.
• Pitt was set to return three of its top six scorers from last season in the backcourt trio of Ithiel Horton (8.9 ppg., 43 3FG), Nike Sibande (6.9 ppg., .436 3FG pct.) and Femi Odukale (6.6 ppg.). Sibande was lost for the season after suffering a torn ACL in a Nov. 1 and Horton was suspended just prior to the start of the season. • Pitt's starting lineup consists of four underclassmen, including three members of the sophomore class - John Hugley, William Jeffress and Femi Odukale. The trio combines to average 40.5 points, 18.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game for the Panthers.

• John Hugley returns for the 2021-22 season after missing the final 15 games last season due to suspension. Through two games, he is averaging 22.0 points per game on 17-of-30 (.567) shooting from the field.
• Pitt is currently playing without its top five scorers from a season ago with a season-ending injury to Nike Sibande, a suspension of Ithiel Horton, the departure of Justin Champagnie to the NBA and two offseason transfers. • Jamarius Burton has been sidelined since undergoing a procedure on his left knee Oct. 8. The Charlotte, N.C., native is averaging 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over 90 career games at Wichita State and Texas Tech. The combo guard averaged a career-best 10.3 points per game as a sophomore at Wichita State during the 2019-20 season.
• Pitt is averaging 34.0 points in the paint per game with interior scoring accounting for 55.7 percent (68-of-122) of the team's points. John Hugley has scored 32 of his 44 points this season in the paint.
• The Panthers, one of the top rebounding teams in the ACC last season, will need to replace 72.6 percent (27.8 of 38.3) of its rebounding from a year ago. The Panthers have a +10.0 rebound margin through two games, including a 36-20 rebounding advantage against West Virginia.
