
No. 4 Pitt Volleyball Sweeps Wake Forest at Home

PITTSBURGH – The No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (19-2, 9-2 ACC) took care of business at home with a sweep of Wake Forest (11-11, 2-9 ACC) Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers earned the victory by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-17. Pitt had the advantage in hitting percentage (.202-.099), assists (33-31), service aces (6-1) and digs (29-26). Wake Forest edged Pitt in blocks (12.0-11.5). Each team recorded 34 kills.
Outside hitter Kayla Lund led Pitt with 11 kills on .304 hitting and added eight digs. Middle blocker Serena Gray and right side Chinaza Ndee produced five kills apiece. Gray had a match-high seven blocks while Ndee contributed five.
Libero Ashley Browske had a team-best nine digs for Pitt. Setters Lexis Akeo and Kylee Levers had 16 and 10 assists, respectively.
SET ONE: No. 4 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 20
Despite a five-point margin, Pitt led wire-to-wire with no ties and no lead changes. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led by as many as nine, up 20-11 after a 7-1 run. An 8-2 Wake Forest run cut the margin to 24-20, but Pitt was able to end the set on a kill by Sabrina Starks.
SET TWO: No. 4 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 22
It was another close set, marked by 11 ties and four lead changes. Pitt trailed late in the frame, down 22-20, and finished the set with an emphatic 5-0 run. Akeo finished it off with an ace for the Pitt win.
SET THREE: No. 4 Pitt 25, Wake Forest 17
The Demon Deacons started the set with a 6-1 advantage, but the Panthers responded with a resounding 11-2 run to take a 12-8 lead. Pitt pushed its lead to 19-11 after a 7-3 surge and cleaned up with its first sweep since Oct. 8.
