Pitt Ends Regular Season With 2-0 Home Shutout of NC State

PITTSBURGH — Pitt women's soccer's (11-7-0, 4-6-0) concluded the regular season with a 2-0 shutout of NC State (8-8-2, 4-6-0) Thursday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. With 12 ACC points, the Panthers finished a program-best place in the league standings (tied for ninth with the Wolfpack) and also tied the school record for single-season wins set last year and ACC wins (2015).
Amanda West scored the game-winning goal, her team-leading 10th of the year, in the 33rd minute from a shot in the top left side of the box. Sarah Schupansky slide to win a free ball that went to Chloe Minas at midfield, who lofted a ball to a free West on the left side.
Emily Yaple produced the other goal in the 43rd minute, her fifth of the season, heading a Hailey Davidson cross to herself to head again deep in the box over a goalkeeper running out to challenge her. Landy Mertz also picked up an assist.

- West tied for the most game-winning goals (five) with Roosa Arvas (2014) and Ashley Cuba (2009), second-most goals with her freshman mark and Cande Ruiz (1998) and for the fourth-most points (23) with Charity McClure (1998) in a single-season in program history.
- Sarah Schupansky moved ahead of Netta Agredano (2001) for the seventh-most points (20).
- For the second time Pitt has two players with 20+ points (Ruiz and McClure in 1998).
- Landy Mertz tied West (2020-21) and Liz Carroll (2010) for the fifth-most assists (seven).
- Katherine Robinson made five saves for her fifth and team's ninth shutout of the season.
- Pitt defeated NC State for the second-straight time (2-1 in Pittsburgh on Oct. 19, 2019) and has active winning streaks against four ACC schools (Boston College, Miami and Syracuse).
- Pitt had the huge advantage in shots (24-11), shots in goals (10-5) and possession time (54%).
- Mertz had a game-high five shots.
- West had five shots.
- Ellie Coffield placed all three of her shots on goal.
