
No. 4 Pitt Volleyball Rebounds with 3-1 Win at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (16-1, 6-1 ACC) returned to the win column with a road victory at Miami (14-3, 5-2 ACC) Friday night at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Panthers handed the Hurricanes their first home loss of the season, as they were previously 5-0. Miami was riding a five-match win streak into Friday's contest. After dropping the first set (25-21), Pitt won the next three by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-18.
Right side hitter Chinaza Ndee led Pitt with a season-best 17 kills on .375 hitting and added three blocks. Outside hitter Kayla Lund produced 16 kills, nine digs and a match-best three service aces. Leketor Member-Meneh was the third Panther with double-figure kills, contributing 12.
Middle blockers Serena Gray and Chiamaka Nwokolo both hit .500 or better with no errors, with Gray going 8-of-12 (.667) and Nwokolo killing 6-of-11 (.545). Nwokolo had a match-high five blocks.
Both of Pitt's setters secured double-doubles, with Kylee Levers at 26 assists and a match-high 15 digs, and Lexis Akeo with 24 assists and season-best 11 digs.
Pitt had advantages in kills (60-41), assists (59-36), digs (67-40) and team hitting percentage (.265-.125). The teams were tied with five service aces and 9.0 blocks apiece.
SET ONE: Miami 25, No. 4 Pitt 21
The teams fought through 11 ties in the first frame, but a 7-2 stretch by Miami ultimately swung the set in its favor, which led to a 22-17 advantage. Pitt fought back with a 4-1 run to make it a two-point margin at 23-21, but the Hurricanes were able to secure the final two points and take a 1-0 lead.
SET TWO: No. 4 Pitt 25, Miami 22
Pitt responded with a win in the second to even things up at 1-1. An 8-3 surge in the middle of the frame put the Panthers in front, 15-11. Miami did not stay far behind, tying the set at 22 after a 5-2 run. The Panthers used a 3-0 run to shut the door on the set, tying things up in the match at one apiece.
SET THREE: No. 4 Pitt 25, Miami 16
The Panthers kept their momentum heading into the third and went up 2-1 in the match. Pitt used a 7-2 run to gain a 12-6 advantage, and later extended its lead with a 4-1 run to go up, 20-13. The Panthers ended the frame with three unanswered points, with the exclamation point being a service ace from Lund.
SET FOUR: No. 4 Pitt 25, Miami 18
Following a 13-13 tie, Pitt took the lead and did not surrender it for the remainder of the match. The Panthers ended things by outscoring the Hurricanes 6-1 to win 25-18 in the fourth and win, 3-1.

No. 4 Pitt will travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tully Gymnasium. The match will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network.
