
Pitt Set To Do Battle At The Penn State National Open Friday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt cross country teams will make its way to University Park, PA Friday morning to compete in the Penn State National Open, where the Nittany Lions' Blue-White Golf Course will play host to the meet.
Pitt will compete against five other schools: James Madison, Georgia Tech, Michigan (#15), Northwestern and the hosts Penn State. For the Panthers, this marks the first meet at University Park since 2018.
The women will start the event at 10:45 am with a 6K run, followed by the men at 11:30 am for an 8K of their own. The Panthers will send 12 runners on the women's side and eight runners on the men's side. For spectators, parking will be available at the West Deck for $1.00 per hour.
On October 1, Pitt competed in the Joe Piane – Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend IN, where the men placed 18th out of 23 teams, which included 10 squads ranked in the top-30, and the women finished in 15th of 24 teams.
Jack Miller was the top finisher for the men as he posted a personal-best 8K time of 24:25.40 while Luke Henseler, Evan Addison and Josh Higgins finished close behind. For the women, Emily Brown led the team for the third consecutive meet and posted a personal best of her own with a time of 18:20.10. Freshman Sarah Hurst also posted a personal-best time (18:23.30) and finished second on the team.
Friday's meet marks the final regular season race for the Panthers as they will return to action on Friday, October 29 for the ACC Cross Country Championships in South Bend, IN. The 2021 ACC's will be held at the Notre Dame Golf Course starting at 10:00 am win the women's 6K race.
