Senior Transfer Set to Compete for Panthers
PITTSBURGH – Senior transfer Kailey Gillings will join the Pitt gymnastics team for the 2021 season, head coach Samantha Snider announced Friday.
"We're thrilled to welcome Kailey [Gillings] to the Pitt gymnastics family," Snider said. "She is a beautiful bars and beam worker who will make an immediate impact on our lineups. We're so happy that she felt Pitt was the right fit to finish her gymnastics career."
A Beach City, Texas, native, Gillings will join the Panthers with immediate eligibility for the 2021 campaign. She graduated in May from the University of Arkansas, earning a bachelor's degree in three years. She studied accounting with minors in finance and communications. Gillings intends to pursue a master's degree in elementary education at Pitt.
"I'm so excited to join the Pitt gymnastics team this fall," Gillings said. "Despite not having met my teammates yet, they have welcomed me in with open arms."
Gillings spent her first three collegiate seasons with the Razorbacks, from 2018-20. She is a 2019 WCGA Scholastic All-American in addition to earning SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll honors.
"The University of Pittsburgh was the first college I looked at when I decided to transfer," Gillings said. "I've known Sam [Snider] and Ryan [Snider] since my freshman year of high school when I was being recruited. Going to camp in the summer and being coached by them was always fun. As soon as Sam contacted me about coming to Pitt, I knew that is where I wanted to be."
Arkansas advanced to the NCAA Regional meet in Gillings' first two seasons on the squad, with a Championship meet appearance in 2018. Her junior season in 2020 was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The way [head coach Samantha Snider] describes the team dynamic and how close everyone is really spoke volumes to me," Gillings said. "Team culture is something I value when looking for a place I want to finish my gymnastics career. I feel Pitt is the perfect place for me to leave my mark as a senior. I'm so excited about this new journey in Pittsburgh!"
