Alecia Petrikis: Dear Pittsburgh
4/10/2020 9:00:00 AM | Women's Gymnastics
Dear Pittsburgh,
As I write this thank you note to you, I do not know where to begin. As a community, you have been the biggest rock for me, and I am forever changed by and indebted to the 'Burgh.
I want to thank you for being my home. By home I mean a place I will always love, and a place I will always cherish as my own. Pittsburgh has seen me grow and transform from my freshman year to senior year. You witnessed me become the strong young woman I am today. Because of you, I have felt the upmost love and support for four years.
Performing for you has been the highest honor. With the genuine support I receive after each and every competition you have touched me in so many ways. You have provided me with the strongest set of teammates and coaches who are more than family and who will remain my family even though my career has come to a conclusion. The support systems, the academic opportunities and the life skills lessons are just icing on the cake to such a strong school in the greatest city. I will take with me all the lessons that were hard to learn and the best moments I shared celebrating with you.
The city of Pittsburgh embodies the character I admire and plan to carry with me forever: strong as steel, may bend but will never break.
Thank you,
Alecia Petrikis
P.S. I love Pitt
