Burton Leads Pitt with Three Awards
PITTSBURGH – Five gymnasts from the University of Pittsburgh have earned all-conference honors from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), as announced Monday.
Michaela Burton, Deven Herbine, Olivia Miller, Alecia Petrikis and Ciara Ward each received recognition for their performances in 2020.
The honors are awarded based on National Qualifying Scores (NQS), with the conference's top eight gymnasts (including ties) from the nine-week regular season comprising the All-EAGL First Team, and the ninth through 16th-ranked gymnasts (including ties) earning All-EAGL Second Team honors on each of the five events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around.

Burton, a senior, led the Panthers with three honors, landing on the All-EAGL First Team for bars, beam and floor. The Downers Grove, Ill., native is the only gymnast in the conference to lead the league on two or more events, with NQS marks of 9.850 on bars and 9.885 on beam. Burton posted the Panthers' top scores of the year on bars (9.900) and beam (9.925) and picked up a team-best 15 individual titles over the nine-week season. Burton tied a Pitt record by earning EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors three times (Jan. 14, Feb. 11, March 3). She is the first Pitt gymnast to earn All-EAGL First Team honors on three or more events in a single season since Lindsay Offutt earned the accolades in all five categories in 2016.

Herbine earned All-EAGL First Team honors for vault and Second Team honors for beam, each marking a first in her career. The senior recorded Pitt's top vault score of the season with a career-best 9.925 at Arizona State (March 8), tying the No. 4 score in program history. Herbine's final year competing as a Panther was objectively her best, as the Glenmoore, Pa., native earned career-high scores on all three events in which she competed (vault, beam, floor) over the course of the 2020 season. She picked up three individual titles, two on vault and one on beam, and completed the season with NQS scores of 9.825 (vault), 9.805 (beam) and 9.780 (floor).

Miller rounded off her sophomore campaign by picking up All-EAGL Second Team honors for floor. The honor is the first of her career, after receiving First Team honors in the all-around in 2019. Miller posted Pitt's top floor score of the 2020 season, earning the first 9.900 of her career at a tri-meet hosted by West Virginia (March 1). The Monroeville, Pa., native finished the year with NQS scores of 9.810 (floor) and 9.735 (vault).

For the second consecutive year, Petrikis landed on the All-EAGL First Team for vault, leading the Panthers with a NQS of 9.850. The Grove City, Pa., native also earned Second Team honors for floor with a NQS of 9.825, marking a first in her four-year career. She posted the Panthers' top scores of the season on both vault (9.925) and floor (9.900), each being a career-best score for the senior. Petrikis was named EAGL Specialist of the Week for the first time in her career (Feb. 18) and picked up seven individual titles in 2020: five on vault and two on floor.

Pitt's only freshman to compete on three events in 2020, Ward finished the season with All-EAGL First Team honors for vault and Second Team honors for bars. She earned two individual titles over the course of the year: one on vault (Jan. 19) and one on floor (Jan. 31). The Prince Frederick, Md., native earned personal-best scores of 9.825 on each of her three events (vault, bars, floor) in 2020, and was named EAGL Rookie of the Week (March 3). Ward finished the year with NQS scores of 9.815 (vault), 9.780 (bars) and 9.780 (floor).
