Panthers Total Nine Victories At Doug Raymond National Qualifier

KENT, OH – The Pitt track & field teams concluded another strong weekend on the track at the Doug Raymond National Qualifier hosted by Kent State as they were able to secure seven individual victories and two relay wins on the weekend.
The Pitt hurdlers continued their dominant start to the indoor season this weekend as Eddita Pessima was able to claim her third victory of the indoor season in the 60m hurdles. Pessima crossed the finish line in 8.32 seconds, .35 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Senior Aysha Muhammad also posted a third place finish in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.68 seconds.
On the men's side, Daveon Finley was able to post his first victory of the season in the 60m hurdles as notched a season-best time of 8.18 seconds in the final. Fellow sophomore Crockett Schooler also posted a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.30 seconds.
A trio of other performers were able to claim victories on the track for the Panthers this weekend as Nikki Scherer notched her second win of the season in the 200m dash, finishing in 24.41 seconds. Senior Danielle Leaks also posted a season-best fifth place finish in the event in 25.40 seconds. Sophomore Brenda Ayuk had her second victory of the season in the 800m dash as she crossed the finish line in 2:13.56, nearly a second ahead of the second place finisher. On the men's side, Lonzell Feagin had his first win of the season in the 400m dash as he posted a time of 48.13 seconds. Feagin also claimed fourth place in the 200m dash with a season best time of 21.64 seconds.
The Panthers jumps squad saw a pair of first place finishers on Saturday as Greg Lauray was able to secure his second straight win in the high jump as he cleared 7'0.25" (2.14m). Senior Taylor Middleton secured her second win of the season in the long jump as she posted a leap of 19'10.25" (6.05m) in the finals and won by nearly a foot. Fellow senior Jordan Fields posted a fifth place finish in the triple jump as she had a leap that covered 38'6.00" (11.73m). In the women's high jump, freshman Lydia Bottelier had another strong showing as she notched a third place finish after clearing a height of 5'4.50" (1.64m).
In the women's 60m dash, Pitt saw a pair of sprinters finish in the top-three as Jaylyn Aminu posted a second place finish, crossing the finish line with a personal best time of 7.46 seconds. Her time of 7.46 seconds is tied for the sixth fastest time in program history in the event. Senior Genaya Johnson was also able to post a third place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.69 seconds.
Pitt had a pair of freshman post personal best times in the men's 800m dash as Jack Wisner took home second place in 1:52.36 and Jack Balick notched a third place finish in 1:53.48. Senior Sam Shields had a strong finish in the 3000m run as she claimed second place, crossing the finish line in 10:04.99.
Pitt saw a trio of runners that placed 2-3-4 in the women's 400m dash led by Sydni Townsend who finished in 56.22 seconds, followed by Flora Ahiarakwe who finished in 56.68 seconds and Alexis Leech who crossed the line in 57.21 seconds.
The Panthers had some strong times posted by their relay squads this weekend as the women's team was able to claim a pair of victories. The women's distance medley relay quartet of Ally Brunton, Monica McNeil, Brenda Ayuk and Devon Hoernlein were able to post a season-best time of 11:53.51 as they claimed victory by over a minute. The 4x400m squad of Townsend, Leech, Ahiarakwe and Scherer claimed the win by over three seconds as they crossed the line in 3:43.14. On the men's side, the 4x400m relay squad of Cobe Wiggins, Ade Jones-Roundtree, Matt Wilson and Feagin claimed second place in 3:17.07, four seconds ahead of the third place team.
Senior Nick Wolk had a good showing this weekend out in Seattle, Washington as he compete in the Husky Classic in the 5000m run. Wolk posted a personal best run in the event as he claimed sixth place in the race with a time of 14:09.18, marking the third fastest time in program history and the second fastest time in the ACC so far this season.
The Panthers will compete in one more meet before the ACC Championships on Feb. 27-29 as they head to Winston-Salem, NC to compete in the JDL DMR Invitational this weekend, Feb. 21-22.
