Panthers Look To Bounce Back As Clemson Visits Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team (2-2, 0-1 ACC) returns home Sunday for a showdown with the unbeaten Clemson Tigers inside the Petersen Events Center. Sunday's game will tip at 12:00 pm and will air live on the ACC Network with Sam Ravech and Kelly Gramlich on the call as Pitt looks for their first ACC win of the season.

- Sunday's meeting will mark the 15th game of all-time between the two programs with the Tigers holding the 8-6 lead in the series.
- The two sides are tied, 3-3, in games being played in Pittsburgh all-time.
- The Tigers have won two straight in the series including an overtime thriller over Pitt last year in Clemson, 75-67.
- Pitt's last win in the series came Feb. 1, 2018 when they collected the 58-42 road victory over the Tigers.
- Pitt opened up ACC play on the road Thursday and put up a tough effort but fell at Virginia Tech, 88-71.
- Pitt had two players score 20+ points as Dayshanette Harris netted 22 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals and Jayla Everett netted 21 points.
- The Pitt offense got out to a sizzling start as they connected on 10 of their first 11 shots of the game while shooting 75% (18-24) from the floor in the first half.
- Despite setting a program record with 32 points in the first quarter, the Panthers weren't able to hold onto the 11-point lead as they dropped their eighth straight ACC opener.
- Virginia Tech netted 15 three-pointers in the game while also outscoring Pitt 25-6 in second chance points.
- The Pitt offense has gotten off to a great start this season as they are averaging 73.3 ppg while shooting 43.9% from the floor as a team and ranking second in the ACC in three-point shooting (40.8%).
- Junior Jayla Everett has been everything the Panthers could've asked for as she has netted three straight 20+ point efforts. The St. Louis, MO product currently ranks third in the ACC in scoring (20.5 ppg) while also ranking second in the conference in three-point shooting (53.1%).
- Pitt welcomes the Clemson Tigers for their second ACC game of the season Sunday, Dec. 13 (12 p.m. - ACC Network) in the 15th meeting of all-time between the two teams. Sam Ravech and Kelly Gramlich will be on the call at the Petersen Events Center.
- The Pitt backcourt duo of Jayla Everett and Dayshanette Harris are the second highest scoring backcourt in the ACC this season (34.8 ppg) trailing only Dana Evans and Hailey Van Lith of Louisville (36.6 ppg).
- Pitt is shooting 43.9% from the floor this season, their best shooting start to a season since 2010-11 (45.4%).
- The Pitt offense is off to its best start to a season since joining the ACC as they have connected on 43.9% from the floor and 40.8% from behind the arc through four games.
- The three-point shooting has been the biggest area of improvement as the Panthers went from 13th in the conference last season in three-point field goal percentage (29.1%) to second in the ACC this season (40.8%). As a team, Pitt ranks 22nd in the NCAA in three-point shooting so far this season.
- Pitt is shooting 43.9% from the floor on the year, their best team shooting percentage through four games since shooting 45.4% during the 2010-11 campaign.
- The Panthers have shot a better percentage from the floor than all four of their opponents this season. Under Coach White, Pitt owns a 16-6 record when they shoot a higher percentage than their opponent.
- Pitt is also 8-2 under White when shooting at least 45% from the floor.
- Sophomore Emy Hayford has been asked to play more point guard this season and she has begun to feel more comfortable in her new role through four games.
- Last time out, Hayford had her best game of the season at Virginia Tech as she provided the Panthers with a great spark off the bench. She finished the game with a season-best 10 points, four rebounds (two offensive) and two assists across 18 minutes of action.
- Over her last two games, Hayford is averaging 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists across 19.0 minutes.
- Hayford has appeared in all 35 career games for Pitt while earning 11 career starts.
- The Panthers return to the road for their next ACC test as they head down south to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2:00 pm. Sunday's game at the Donald L. Tucker Center will air live on ACC Network Extra.
