"It was a very good result on the road against a very difficult opponent in Syracuse," said head coach Jay Vidovich. "Happy we were able to come back once again and it was a good result. Big team effort there at the end as Luis [Lara] came in at the end to help us out as we were fatiguing late, but overall great team win."
The contest began locked at zero all, thanks to graduate student goalkeeper Nico Campuzano, who earned three saves in total in the first half, including back-to-back saves in the 17th minute. Petkovic opened the scoring in the 38th minute, receiving a cross from Jacquesson and putting Pitt up 1-0. The score remained the same at halftime.Syracuse tied the game up, 1-1, after Hilli Goldhar headed a ball toward the right post, trickling in for a goal at the 65 minute mark. Jeorgio Kocevski earned the assist for the Orange.
Petkovic scored his second goal of the night courtesy of Dexter in the 71st minute, as Petkovic used his left foot from left to right to find the back of the net from 12 yards out. Just over a minute later, Sondre Norheim found Noah Singelmann for a goal for the Orange, tying the game back up after a minute-and-nine second lead for the Panthers. Neither team could break the tie as regulation ended knotted up at two all.
Both teams recorded nine shots and five saves after regulation.
Less than a minute into the first overtime, Syracuse's Luther Archimede received his second yellow card of the night, earning a red and putting Putt up a man for the remainder of the game. The score stayed 2-2 after the first overtime.
Three minutes into the second overtime, senior Sito Sena took a free kick from 35 yards out. As the ball found the middle of the box, Ordoñez passed up to Jacquesson, who struck a low ball from the top of the 18 into the lower left part of the net. The golden goal gave Pitt the 3-2 victory, its first overtime victory since Nov. 10, 2019 against NC State in the ACC Championship quarterfinals.

"I am very happy because we deserved this win," said Jacquesson. "Overall we played a great team game and am proud to score the final goal for us."The Panthers totaled 11 shots, compared to the Orange's nine. Pitt also led in corner kicks, 12-2, including 9-0 from the second half on.
