Pitt Cancels Game at Syracuse

PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's soccer's non-conference game Sunday against Syracuse has been cancelled, the two schools announced Wednesday. The game will not be made up this fall.
Recently, a decision was made to reduce the maximum amount of regular season games any ACC women's soccer team could play from 20 to 16 games. Due to this reduction, the Panthers canceled remaining non-league matches to preserve opportunities to play in the spring.
"I felt very fortunate that Heather Lyke and the athletic department allowed us to schedule as many games as possible this fall due to the uncertainty of a spring season happening," said Pitt head coach Randy Waldrum. "The growth of the team due to all the games we have been able to play is undeniable. It is unfortunate, over a month into our season, that the decision to reduce the number of games we are able to play this year necessitated the cancellation of the game with Syracuse. We look forward to our future opportunities to play Syracuse, a program we certainly respect and appreciate competing against on an annual basis."
The Panthers and Orange squared off earlier this season at Ambrose Urbanic Field, a 2-0 Pitt victory.
Pitt returns to action at No. 3 Clemson next Thursday at 7 p.m.
