Panthers Drop Dual Meet At Navy On Friday Night

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams opened up their 2020 campaign on Friday night with a dual meet against Navy at the USNA Cross Country Course. Navy was able to collect the victory in both the women's 6K and men's 8K races.
On the men's side, the Panthers were downed in a close dual by a score of 37-23. Leading the way for the Pitt men was graduate transfer Marc Migliozzi who notched a second place finish in 24:18.98 while Zach Lefever notched a third place finish in 24:32.53. Josh Higgins notched a top-10 finish as he crossed the finish line in ninth place in 24:51.24 while the freshmen duo of Sam Otis and Luke Henseler came in 12th and 13th place, respectively, in their first collegiate meet. Evan Addison made his season debut with a 17th place finish in 25:20.47.
The Pitt women were taken down by the Navy women on Friday evening, 50-15, as the Mids were able to secure the top eight finishers. Senior Ally Brunton was the Panthers' top finishers as she crossed the line in ninth place in 22:48.68 while freshman Caroline Beard opened up her collegiate career with a 12th place finish in 23:14.40. The next four finishers for the Panthers were Corinne Firestone, Lily Robertson, Olivia Zambrio and Brenda Ayuk who came in 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th places, respectively.
Pitt will have next week off before returning to action on Friday, October 16 as they will host the Panther Open at Youthtowne in Clinton, Pa. The Panthers will be welcoming local rival West Virginia to the challenging Youthtowne course.
