
Pitt Drops Road Contest At #5 Louisville On Sunday

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Pitt women's basketball team dropped a road game to the #5 Louisville Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at the KFC YUM! Center by the score of 83-49. Freshman Dayshanette Harris led all Pitt players with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Pitt had a strong start to the game as Cara Judkins finished off a layup for the first bucket of the game. Aysia Bugg then knocked down a triple and Dayshanette Harris hit a mid-range jumper to give Pitt the early 7-4 lead over the nationally-ranked Cardinals. The home team responded over the next five minutes with a 14-0 run to take the 18-7 lead and forced the Panthers to take a timeout. Pitt was able to come out of the timeout and net back-to-back triples from Bugg and Gabbie Green to send the game to the second quarter with Louisville holding onto a 21-13 lead.
Harris had a strong start to the second quarter for Pitt as she netted a layup on the opening possession and then knocked down a step-back triple to cut the deficit to eight, 28-20, midway through the quarter. The Cardinals however, closed out the second quarter on a 13-4 run as Amber Brown finished the half for Pitt with a layup to send the teams to the locker room with the home team leading, 41-24.
The Cardinals came out of the locker room on fire on Sunday as they went on a 12-3 run to push their lead out to 53-27 midway through the third. After the media timeout, Brown was able to finish off a layup and Bugg knocked down a jumper as the two teams went to the fourth quarter with Louisville leading, 66-35.
The Panthers weren't able to get any closer in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals outscored Pitt 17-14 over the final 10 minutes as they cruised to the 83-49 home victory.
Harris led all Pitt players with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals across 31 minutes of work while Brown notched six points and a team-high nine rebounds in the loss. Judkins finished with six points and seven rebounds while Rita Igbokwe grabbed eight boards off the bench.
As a team, Louisville shot 47.7% while the Panthers were held to just 29.7% shooting in the road loss. The Cardinals won the rebounding battle 42-40 while Pitt ripped down 18 offensive rebounds and nine second chance points.
