
Pitt Swimming & Diving to Honor Senior Class at Western PA Invite

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving program will honor its 2020 senior class this weekend when the Panthers host the annual Western Pennsylvania Invitational at Trees Pool.
The action begins with diving events on Friday at 1 p.m., while swimming competition starts on Saturday at 11 a.m. Senior Day ceremonies will also be held at Trees Pool on Saturday for 15 Pitt seniors.
The Panthers will welcome five local rivals from the region to the meet, with Duquesne, California (PA), Carnegie Mellon, Clarion and St. Francis (PA) all expected to compete over the two days in the pool.
Pitt has historically dominated the meet, winning every matchup over the past few years in what is a great opportunity for all of the programs to fine-tune their swimming and diving athletes as conference championship season closes in.
This year, Pitt will honor 15 seniors at the Western PA Invite.
Friday afternoon will see three senior divers compete for the Panthers – Lisa Coe, Krista Jones and Cortnee Williams.
Saturday's swimming will also showcase another 12 senior Pitt athletes – Walker Brooks, Hannah Bumgarner, Lucas Cerchiaro, Valerie Daigneault, Sarah Giamber, Samy Helmbacher, Jacqueline Hendrix, Shan Hochkeppel, Barb Schmele, Madelyn Shaffer, Luke Smutny and Eben Vorster.
This senior class has made an incredible impact on the program while competing under fourth-year head coach John Hargis and third-year diving coach Katie Hazelton, especially the five Pitt record holders: Daigneault, Helmbacher, Jones, Shaffer and Vorster.
The first 100 fans to come to Trees Pool on Saturday will receive a free Pitt swimming & diving towel.
Admission is FREE for all fans for both days of the Western PA Invite at Trees Pool.
