Women's Soccer Blanks Saint Joseph's On Sunday, 2-0

PITTSBURGH – Behind a pair of second half goals, the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team got back on track Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field as they downed Saint Joseph's 2-0. Amanda West extended her point streak to six straight matches as she netted a goal and an assist in the victory.

- The Panthers were able to record the first shot of the match in the second minute of play as Amanda West ripped a shot that went just wide.
- In the 20th minute, West had a good scoring chance as he header attempt was saved after a nice cross from Anna Bout.
- The Panthers opened up the second half strong as Amanda West ripped a shot towards the upper corner of the net in the 49th minute but the Hawks keeper poked the ball over the net to keep the match scoreless.
- In the 69th minute, Dixon Veltri had a header attempt that went just wide after a great corner from Juliana Vazquez.
- Freshman Athalie Palomo nearly broke the scoreless match in the 71st minute as she ripped a shot on goal but her right-footed shot rang off the cross bar and was cleared out of the box.
- The Panthers finally broke through with the first goal of the match in the 73rd minute as Amanda West was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. On the ensuing penalty kick attempt, West buried the ball into the left corner of the goal to give Pitt the 1-0 lead.
- Pitt made the score 2-0 in the 85th minute as West fed Vazquez who played a great ball into Margret Arnadottir and she slotted her first career goal into the right corner.
- The Panthers are now 15-14-1 all-time against Atlantic 10 opponents including a 1-0-0 record vs. Saint Joseph's.
- Amanda West continued her point streak to start her career as she netted a goal and an assist for three points on Sunday. The freshman has now netted at least one point in all six matches for the Panthers.
- Her 17 points on the season are the most by a Panther since 2014 when Roosa Arvas netted 21 points. Her seven goals on the year are the third most in a single season by a Pitt player.
- Freshman Margret Arnadottir netted her first career goal in the second half for the Panthers.
- In goal, freshman Caitlyn Lazzarini made her first career start and posted a clean sheet as she made three saves.
- The Panthers held a 20-6 edge in shots and the 7-4 edge in corner kicks in their third victory of the season.
- West led all players with five shots, all on goal, while Krystyna Rytel, Dixon Veltri and Athalie Palomo had two shots each in the win.
- The Panthers used their sixth different starting lineup through six matches on Sunday afternoon.
- The Panthers will stay at home for their final match of a three-match home stand on Thursday night at 7:00 pm as they welcome the VCU Rams to town.
