Pitt Softball Grad Olivia Gray Honored for Her Work in the Pittsburgh Community
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh softball alumna Olivia Gray has been named the 2019 Athlete CRUSH Catalyst Award winner, as announced by organization reps Thursday night.
The award is given out annually to a collegiate student-athlete who takes the initiative to make a change in his or her community. With the award, the honoree has the ability to donate $531 to the charity of his or her choosing on behalf of Athlete CRUSH.
Gray, who graduated from Pitt this past spring, accumulated more than 400 volunteer hours during her time at the University of Pittsburgh. She devoted time to organizations such as the MIVO Foundation, Coalition for Christian Outreach, Coach for College, Team IMPACT, UPMC, Miracle League, Special Olympics and the Tree of Life Synagogue Congregation.
Gray was also the initiator in bringing Team IMPACT recruit Rylee DiTullio to the Pitt softball team prior to the start of its 2019 campaign. DiTullio, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child, is now an honorary member of the team and attends games, practices, gatherings and more.
The Washington, Pa., native was also a standout on the playing field during her time with the Panthers. Gray currently owns the single-game assist record after collecting 10 assists in a matchup against UCF Feb. 12, 2017, and finished the 2018 season ranked third in program history for single-season assists with 173. She closed out her career with a .302 batting average, .400 on-base percentage and .498 slugging percentage while adding 156 hits, 103 runs, 90 RBI, 75 walks, 31 doubles, 22 home runs and 404 assists in the field.
Gray, who was selected as a 2019 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipient, is currently pursuing graduate studies in West Liberty University's Physician Assistant program.
