Hermanek Announces Hiring of Former Seton Hill Assistant Coach
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh head softball coach Jodi Hermanek announced Wednesday the hiring of Katie Sebbane as a volunteer assistant coach on the softball staff.
Sebbane joins the staff following the recent announcement of Michelle Huber as the new director of operations and will serve alongside Hermanek and assistant coach Jillian Van Wagnen on the coaching staff. She will assist with infield, outfield and hitting while also coordinating Pitt softball's camps and clinics.
"I am very excited with the addition of Katie Sebbane to our coaching staff," said Hermanek. "Her work ethic, knowledge of the game and desire to grow professionally makes her a perfect fit for our program and staff."
Sebbane comes to Pitt from Seton Hill University, where she spent the past year as an assistant coach while working with infield and hitting. The Griffins went 29-18 in her lone season with the team, marking their highest win total since 2015.
Prior to Seton Hill, Sebbane spent two years as a graduate assistant softball coach at Misericordia University while working with outfield and hitting. During her time with the Cougars, the team compiled a combined 44-40 overall record and 17-11 mark in conference play for their 2017 and 2018 seasons. The 2018 team also set a single-season program home run record under Sebbane's tutelage, blasting 39 long balls in just 41 games.
"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Pitt softball program and work alongside such distinguished coaches and players," said Sebbane. "I'd like to thank Jodi and the rest of the staff for providing me with this great opportunity to join the Panther family."
Before beginning her coaching career, Sebbane was a four-year starter at third base for Salisbury University. She concluded her playing career with a .316 batting average while adding 153 hits, 128 RBI, 84 runs, 44 walks, 30 doubles and 16 home runs in 183 games. Sebbane was a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference honoree during her time with the Sea Gulls and was also an NFCA All-Region selection as a sophomore.
A Frederick, Md., native, Sebbane earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Salisbury and a master's degree in organizational management from Misericordia.
