Pitt Can’t Sustain Hot Start in Contest with Missouri
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped its first contest of the Mizzou Tournament, 9-2, to Missouri Friday night at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the contest, but ultimately couldn't sustain their momentum as the Tigers fought back for the win.
Pitt utilized three pitchers on the mound in senior Taylor Rahach, redshirt sophomore Brittany Knight and freshman Abby Edwards. The trio combined to allow nine earned runs while striking out one in six innings of work.
Offensively, the Panthers collected six hits on the night. Senior Olivia Gray led the team with a 2-for-4 effort, while seniors Gabrielle Fredericks and Taylor Myers, junior Alexee Haynes and sophomore Hunter Levesque each added one hit apiece.
SCORING SUMMARY
Pitt got on the board first, with senior Alexis Solak using a sac fly to right field to score Levesque from third.
The Panthers added another run in the top of the second, with Levesque earning a bases-loaded walk to score Myers and put the game at 2-0.
Missouri answered in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead following a three-run long ball.
The Tigers added three more runs in the third, using a two-RBI double and RBI-single to put the score at 6-2.
Missouri would go on to add two more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth frame to earn the eventual 9-2 win.
