Panthers Drop Series Opener to Syracuse

Pitt Falls to Orange in First of Three-Game Series
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped its series opener, 10-0, to Syracuse Friday afternoon at Skytop Stadium.
Freshman Abby Edwards earned the start for Pitt, allowing one earned run (four total) while striking out a batter in just one inning of work. Senior Sarah Dawson entered the game in the second frame, allowing five earned runs (six total) while striking out one in 3.0 innings of action.
The Panthers collected six hits and four total walks offensively, but were unable to find timely hitting, as they ultimately left 11 runners stranded in the contest. Senior Gabrielle Fredericks and sophomore Hunter Levesque led the squad with 2-for-3 efforts, while senior Alexis Solak and junior Walker Barbee each added one hit apiece.
SCORING SUMMARY
The Orange collected four runs in the first frame, scoring three unearned runs following two errors in the field.
Syracuse tacked on another run in the second inning via an RBI-single to left field.
The Orange capped off their scoring in the third frame, scoring five runs in the inning to earn the eventual 10-0 run-rule victory.
