Panthers Back In Action This Weekend At Raleigh Relays

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh track and field teams will return to the track this weekend as they will compete in the Raleigh Relays down in Raleigh, North Carolina. The two-day meet which is hosted by NC State will take place at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility on Friday and Saturday.

- The NC State Wolfpack will host the meet that features a very strong field of teams.
- The other teams participating this weekend are Benedict, Bowling Green, Bradley, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, Central Michigan, Charlotte, Coker, Davidson, Dayton, Delaware, Duke, East Carolina, EKU, Elon, ETSU, FIU, Fordham, Furman, High Point, Howard, Iona, James Madison, Kent State, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Morgan State, Mount St. Mary's, NC Central, North Carolina, Oakland, Ohio, Penn, Providence, Purdue Fort Wayne, Rhode Island, Rochester, Samford, Seton Hill, Toledo, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, VMI, Wake Forest, Walsh, West Virginia, William & Mary, Wingate, Xavier, Yale and Youngstown State.
- The meet will begin on Friday at 9:00 am as the women's 5000m run will open up action. There will be three sections of the event running until around 9:45 am.
- The field events will begin on Friday at 10:00 am with the men's discus, the women's shot put and the men's and women's high jump.
- Action will conclude on Friday with the women's 10,000m run which will begin around 10:43 pm.
- Saturday action will begin at 9:30 am with the men's 10,000m run. The field events will begin at 9:45 am with the women's hammer throw.
- The meet will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400m relays which are scheduled to take place at 4:20 pm (women) and 4:40 pm (men).
- The Panthers sent athletes to the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee and the Carnegie Mellon Invite in Pittsburgh last weekend and they produced multiple season-best and personal best times.
- Junior Dante' Watson was the lone Panther to collect a victory at the Florida State Relays as he posted a season-best time of 1:50.43 in the 800m run. His time also ranks as the fastest in the ACC and seventh fastest in the country this season.
- Pitt saw four student-athletes notch personal bests that propelled them into the top-10 all-time lists. Aysha Muhammad notched a third place finish in the 100m hurdles in 13.95 seconds, the sixth fastest time in program history. Nikki Scherer took home fourth place in the 400m run with a personal best time of 54.57 seconds, the eighth fastest in program history. In the triple jump, Jordan Fields collected a third place finish with a leap of 11.81m, the ninth best in program history in the event. At the CMU Invite, Antoinette Gyles recorded a throw of 45.87m in the hammer throw, the 10th best throw in program history.

- Women's 4x100m relay – Genaya Johnson, Scherer, Danielle Leaks and Jaylyn Aminu (3rd)
- Women's 4x400m relay – Scherer, Nina Crawford, Breanna Phillips and Townsend (6th)
- Pitt will return to the track next weekend as they head down to Charlottesville, VA to compete in the Virginia Four-Team Challenge on Saturday, April 6.
