Panthers Sets Sights On Road Win At Wake Forest On Thursday

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team (10-18, 1-13 ACC) will hit the road for the final time during the regular season on Thursday night as they head to Winston-Salem, NC to take on Wake Forest at 7pm inside the LJVM Coliseum.

- Thursday night's game at Wake Forest will broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra or on WatchESPN/WatchESPN app.

- The Panthers pride themselves on forcing turnovers and they have done a great job of doing that in ACC play as they are forcing an average of 16.4 turnovers/game and rank fourth in the conference notching 8.8 steals/game in ACC contests.
- For the first time this season, the Panthers lost when scoring 60+ points as they are now 9-1 overall this season when doing so.
- Pitt also owns a perfect 6-0 record this season when shooting at least 45% from the floor and a 9-1 record when shooting a higher percentage from the floor than their opponent.
- The Panthers (10-18, 1-13 ACC) struggled early on and wasn't able to dig themselves out of an early hole against #18 Syracuse as they were downed 90-63 on Thursday night.
- The Orange were able to race out to a 17-point lead after the first quarter and then scored 28 in the second to put the game away.
- Senior Danielle Garven continued her strong play for the Panthers in the loss as she led the Panthers in scoring for the fifth straight game as she netted 23 points, three rebounds and two steals. The 23-point effort marked the third 20+ game for Garven this season, a career-high.
- Junior point guard Jasmine Whitney had a big game for the Panthers in the loss as she finished with 18 points, five assists, five steals and three rebounds across a team-high 35 minutes. With her five assists, Whitney moved into 10th place on the Panthers all-time assists charts with 352 career assists.
- As a team, Syracuse held the dominant 53-28 edge in rebounds while the Panthers forced 25 Orange turnovers in the loss.
- The Wake Forest Demon Deacons enter Thursday night's game against the Panthers with a 10-17 overall record and a 1-13 ACC mark. Last time out, the Demon Deacons were handed a 55-44 loss by the Duke Blue Devils in Winston-Salem.
- Wake Forest is being led offensively by Elisa Penna who is averaging a team-high 15.3 points and 5.6 rebounds on the year. Penna has missed the Demon Deacons last 10 games due to injury and is not expected to play on Thursday.
- Ivana Raca has started all 27 games for the Demon Deacons and is averaging 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists across 34.5 minutes/game. Alex Sharp has started the last three games for Wake Forest and is averaging 12.1 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds on the season. Point guard Gina Conti has started all 27 games and leads the team in assists averaging 5.1 helpers/game and 8.4 points so far this season.
- As a team, the Demon Deacons rank last in the ACC in scoring offense (56.9 ppg), last in three-point field goal percentage (27.8%) and last in turnover margin (-6.3).
- Wake Forest is coached by Jen Hoover who is in her seventh season at the helm of the Demon Deacons. Hoover currently owns a career head coaching record of 118-134 including a 98-121 mark at Wake.
- Pitt will return home on Sunday as they welcome nationally-ranked Louisville to the Petersen Events Center for their regular season finale at 2:00 pm. Sunday's game will be the Panthers Play4Kay game and Senior Day game.
- The ACC Tournament will begin on Wednesday, Mar. 6. The Panthers seed and opponent will be decided after the Louisville contest.
