
Pitt Falls to Coastal Carolina and UCF in Day Two of Knights Classic

Panthers Drop Two in Second Day of UCF Knights Classic
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped two contests Saturday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex, falling to Coastal Carolina, 11-3, and UCF, 2-0.
The Panthers utilized three pitchers against the Chanticleers in senior Taylor Rahach, redshirt sophomore Brittany Knight and freshman Abby Edwards. The trio combined to give up 10 earned runs while striking out two.
Four different Pitt batters combined for the team's five hits in the game, with senior Marissa DeMatteo leading the way with a 2-for-3 effort. Sophomore Hunter Levesque went 1-for-2 in the contest, collecting her first home run of the season. Freshman Katlyn Pavlick added a 1-for-2 showing to go along with two runs and a walk, while sophomore Brie Horrell went 1-for-3 while adding an RBI.
In game two, Edwards earned the start on the rubber, going the distance while allowing just one earned run and recording a strikeout in the contest.
The Panthers collected five hits at the plate, with DeMatteo, Levesque, junior Walker Barbee, sophomore Chandler Walter and freshman Sarah Seamans each recording one apiece.
SCORING SUMMARY – GAME ONE
Pitt got off to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first frame after an RBI-single by DeMatteo scored Pavlick following a leadoff double by the freshman.
The Chanticleers immediately answered in the bottom of the inning, evening the score at one apiece after a triple to right center scored a runner from first.
Coastal Carolina added two more in the second inning, taking a 3-1 lead.
The Panthers added their second run of the game in the top of the third, with a single to right field by Horrell sending home Pavlick from third.
The Chanticleers again answered in the bottom of the frame, collecting five runs in the inning to take an 8-2 lead.
Pitt added its third and final run of the contest in the fourth inning, with Levesque cranking a ball over the left field wall for a leadoff home run.
Coastal Carolina would add another run in the fourth inning before scoring two more in the fifth, putting the score at 11-3 and enacting the run rule.
SCORING SUMMARY – GAME TWO
The matchup between Pitt and UCF was a low scoring affair, with only two runs collected in the contest.
The Knights earned their first run of the game in the second inning, using an RBI-double to score a runner from second.
UCF collected the second and final run of the game in the third inning, with an infield error sending home a Knight runner.

The Panthers will close out the UCF Knights Classic with a 9:30 a.m. contest against Penn State Sunday morning.
