
Pitt Drops Non-Conference Final At Cincinnati On Saturday

CINCINNATI, OH – The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team was upended on Saturday afternoon in their non-conference finale, falling on the road to Cincinnati, 69-53. With the loss, Pitt falls to 3-8 overall on the season while the Bearcats improve to 8-4.
Freshman Amber Brown led the Panthers in scoring on Saturday as she netted 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks across 32 minutes of work. Senior Captain Aysia Bugg chipped in with eight points and four assists while Gabbie Green finished with eight points and four boards in the loss.
Junior Cara Judkins had a strong start to the game for the Panthers on Saturday as she opened the scoring with a layup on the first possession of the game before grabbing an offensive board and making a put-back to give Pitt the 4-3 lead early on. The Bearcats then went on a 6-2 run to take the 9-6 lead into the first media timeout. After trading a pair of buckets, Bugg knocked down a deep two to end the scoring in the first, sending Pitt to the second quarter trailing 14-10.
The Bearcats were able to run their lead out to nine, 22-13, early in the second quarter but the Panthers responded with a Marcella Lamark layup and a Bugg triple to cut the deficit down to four with eight minutes left in the first half. Eight straight from Cincinnati extended their lead out to 12, 30-18, but Dayshanette Harris knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a nine point deficit for Pitt at half, 33-24.
Green was able to connect on her first triple of the game early in the third quarter to cut the Panthers deficit to 11, 40-29. Trailing 46-33, Green was able to knock down her second triple of the quarter and Bugg drained a three at the buzzer as the Panthers went to the fourth down, 50-42.
After the two sides exchanged buckets to open the fourth, Brown was able to drive to the hoop and finish off a layup to cut the Pitt deficit to eight, 54-46, but the Panthers weren't able to get any closer down the stretch. The Bearcats finished off the fourth quarter going 9-for-12 from the floor to secure the home win.
For the game, Cincinnati was able to outshoot the Panthers 46% to 33.9% while also outscoring Pitt 22-13 in points off of turnovers. Free throw shooting hurt the Panthers on Saturday as they went just 9-for-21 from the charity stripe in the loss while Cincinnati finished the game 7-for-9 on freebies.
Judkins finished off her afternoon with seven points, three rebounds and two blocks while Rita Igbokwe closed out her strong game off the bench with five points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 22 minutes of work.
