Pitt to Host Clemson for Senior Day at Fitzgerald Field House
PITTSBURGH – The No. 2 Pitt volleyball team (24-1, 13-0) will honor five senior Panthers at a 1 p.m. match against Clemson (10-14, 4-9) Sunday to close 2019 play at Fitzgerald Field House.

- With a Pitt win over Clemson and a Notre Dame loss at Miami Sunday afternoon, the Panthers would clinch at least a share of the ACC Volleyball Championship for the third consecutive season.
- The Fighting Irish (17-6, 10-3) visit the Hurricanes (9-12, 5-8) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, Fla.
A WIN WOULD…
- Extend the Panthers' best start to an ACC season in program history, improving to 14-0.
- Extend Pitt's longest winning streak when playing at Fitzgerald Field House to 34 consecutive matches. Pitt's last loss at the Field House came Oct. 22, 2017, against NC State (3-1).
- Improve the Panthers' record to 8-1 all-time against Clemson and 4-0 when playing in Pittsburgh.
- Extend Pitt's winning streak against the Tigers to eight matches. The Panthers' lone loss to Clemson came in the first meeting: Aug. 30, 1997 (3-1).
- Improve the Panthers' record to 42-2 when ranked inside the AVCA top 10 and 15-1 when ranked inside the top five.
SENIOR DAY
- Immediately following the Panthers' match against Clemson, Pitt will honor its senior class of Alix Dreier, Hali Hillegas, Nika Markovic, Layne Van Buskirk and Stephanie Williams.
DID YOU KNOW?
- The Panthers (24-1, 13-0) are the lone Division I volleyball team to outscore each of their 2019 opponents.
- Despite its lone loss to then-ranked No. 4 Penn State (Sept. 22), the Panthers outscored the Nittany Lions in five sets (26-28, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 14-16), 111-110.
ALL-TIME HIGHS
- For the second consecutive week, Pitt is No. 2 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, matching its highest ranking in program history.
- The ranking is the highest ever for an ACC volleyball team. The previous high was No. 3, earned by Pitt in 2019 and by Florida State in 2014.
- The ranking marks the 21st week in program history that Pitt has landed among the top 10 programs in the NCAA, and the eighth week ever in the top five.
- The Panthers are 41-2 all-time when ranked inside the top 10, and 14-1 when ranked in the top five.
- Pitt moved up one spot to No. 4 in the NCAA Volleyball RPI, matching its highest ranking in program history. The Panthers were No. 4 for the week of Oct. 8, 2018.
LAST TIME OUT
- No. 2 Pitt survived a five-set test by Georgia Tech Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
- Although Pitt's 26-set win streak and eight-match sweep streak ended at the hands of the Yellow Jackets, the Panthers remain at the top of the ACC standings with their best start ever to league play at 13-0. Pitt has won 39 out of 42 ACC sets played.
- Four Panthers recorded double-figure kills, led by junior right side Chinaza Ndee with 19 on .500 hitting. Classmate Kayla Lund followed with 14, and redshirt senior Stephanie Williams had 12. Senior middle Layne Van Buskirk rounded out the quartet with 11 kills.
- Williams posted her team-high fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 23 digs to go along with her 12 kills.
- Sophomore middle Sabrina Starks provided a spark with a match-high six blocks. Six-time ACC Freshman of the Week Lexis Akeo posted 43 assists and seven digs.
- Pitt held on for the win despite being out-killed by the Yellow Jackets (70-67). Georgia Tech also had the advantage in assists (66-62) and digs (75-66). The Panthers had more service aces (6-1) and posted a better hitting percentage (.311-.293). Blocks were tied, 9.5 apiece.
SCOUTING CLEMSON
- The Tigers (10-14, 4-9) will look to snap a four-match slump when they visit No. 2 Pitt Sunday. Clemson was swept by its last two opponents, North Carolina (Nov. 3) and Virginia (Nov. 8), on the road.
- Clemson is 0-2 against AVCA top 25 opponents this season, swept by No. 9 Wisconsin (Sept. 14) and No. 7 Minnesota (Sept. 20).
- The Tigers are 1-7 in away matches this season, with their lone road win coming Oct. 11 at Virginia Tech (3-1).
- Kaylin Korte is Clemson's leader in kills per set with 3.67.
UP NEXT
- No. 2 Pitt will vie for a season sweep against Duke when the Panthers visit Durham, N.C., and Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
