No. 2 Panthers to Conclude ACC Road Play at NC State

PITTSBURGH – The second-ranked, 2019 ACC Champion Pitt volleyball team (27-1, 16-0) will look to sweep its season series with NC State (11-17, 6-10) when it closes regular-season road play at Reynolds Coliseum Sunday at 1 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.

No. 2 Pitt secured its third consecutive ACC Volleyball title Saturday, Nov. 16, with a sweep at Duke. With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Panthers hold a four-match lead in the league.
With the win, Pitt also secured the ACC's Automatic Qualifier bid to compete in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Panthers will dance for the fourth consecutive year and for the 15th time in program history.

ALL-TIME HIGH

For the fourth consecutive week, Pitt is No. 2 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, matching its highest ranking in program history.
The ranking is the highest ever for an ACC volleyball team. The previous high was No. 3, earned by Pitt in 2019 and by Florida State in 2014.
The ranking marks the 23rd week in program history that Pitt has landed among the top 10 programs in the NCAA, and the 10th week ever in the top five.
The Panthers are 44-2 all-time when ranked inside the top 10, and 17-1 when ranked in the top five.
Pitt fell two spots to No. 5 in the latest NCAA Volleyball RPI.

LAST TIME OUT

No. 2 Pitt completed a season sweep of Florida State with a 3-1 win Friday night at Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers downed the Seminoles by scores of 25-19, 26-28, 25-19, 25-22.
The victory marked the 250th win of head coach Dan Fisher's career. He owns a 250-50 record (.833) over nine seasons, with seven at Pitt.
Three from Pitt earned double-doubles: redshirt senior outside hitter Stephanie Williams tied a season high with 16 kills to go along with 12 digs, junior outside hitter Kayla Lund produced 14 kills and 16 digs, and freshman setter Lexis Akeo recorded 48 assists and 14 digs.
Junior side Chinaza Ndee led Pitt's offense with 19 kills and contributed a team-high four blocks. Redshirt senior libero Hali Hillegas anchored Pitt's defense with a season-high 25 digs.
Pitt held Florida State to .147 hitting while the Panthers posted a percentage of .231. Pitt had the advantage in nearly every stat: kills (68-47), assists (68-45), service aces (4-2) and digs (85-75). The Seminoles out-blocked Pitt, 11.0-6.0.

SCOUTING NC STATE

The Wolfpack (11-17, 6-10) will return home for the first time since Nov. 3 when it hosts Pitt Sunday afternoon.
NC State is looking to bounce back after being swept on the road at Georgia Tech Sunday, Nov. 17.
The Wolfpack is 0-2 against AVCA Top 25 opponents this season, with sweeps against then-ranked No. 23 Florida State (Oct. 11) and then-ranked No. 3 Pitt (Oct. 20).
NC State is 5-6 when playing at home this season, dropping their most recent home match against Georgia Tech (3-2, Nov. 3).
Melissa Evans leads the Wolfpack with 3.52 kills per set this season.
Last time against Pitt, the Panthers made light work of NC State by scores of 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 (Oct. 20) at Fitzgerald Field House.

UP NEXT

The No. 2 Panthers will host their final home match of the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. at Petersen Events Center against Louisville.
