Fisher Earns 250th Career Victory
PITTSBURGH – The No. 2 Pitt volleyball team (27-1, 16-0) completed a season sweep of Florida State (17-9, 10-6) with a 3-1 win Friday night at Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers downed the Seminoles by scores of 25-19, 26-28, 25-19, 25-22.
The victory marked the 250th win of head coach Dan Fisher's career. He owns a 250-50 record (.833) over nine seasons, with seven at Pitt.
Three from Pitt earned double-doubles: redshirt senior outside hitter Stephanie Williams tied a season high with 16 kills to go along with 12 digs, junior outside hitter Kayla Lund produced 14 kills and 16 digs, and freshman setter Lexis Akeo recorded 48 assists and 14 digs.
Junior side Chinaza Ndee led Pitt's offense with 19 kills and contributed a team-high four blocks. Redshirt senior libero Hali Hillegas anchored Pitt's defense with a season-high 25 digs.
Pitt held Florida State to .147 hitting while the Panthers posted a percentage of .231. Pitt had the advantage in nearly every stat: kills (68-47), assists (68-45), service aces (4-2) and digs (85-75). The Seminoles out-blocked Pitt, 11.0-6.0.

Set One: No. 2 Pitt 25, Florida State 19
The Panthers earned an early 13-9 lead following a 4-0 run, but the Seminoles were able to even things up with a 4-0 run of their own. Pitt pushed back with a 3-0 run, and later made it 21-16 after a 4-1 surge. A strong 4-1 finish gave the Panthers the opening frame, 25-19. Ndee, Van Buskirk and Williams had four kills apiece in the set.
Set Two: Florida State 28, No. 2 Pitt 26
The second frame was marked by 12 ties and five lead changes. Pitt earned a substantial 16-10 lead following a 16-10, but the Seminoles started to close the gap with a 4-0 run of their own. Later, Florida State earned set point (24-23) after a 3-0 run. The Panthers fought through three more set points but ultimately fell in extra points, 28-26, as Florida State evened the match at one set apiece.
Set Three: No. 2 Pitt 25, Florida State 19
Florida State kept its momentum early in the stanza with a 4-0 run to gain a 5-3 lead. Pitt took back the lead with a 5-1 run to make it 11-10, and later extended the margin with a 6-1 run to go up, 17-13. Another strong finish by the Panthers closed the third frame, ending on a 4-0 run to win, 25-19, and go up, 2-1, in the match. Ndee had 16 kills through three sets.
Set Four: No. 2 Pitt 25, Florida State 22
Florida State led 14-11 before Pitt gained back the momentum, later using an 8-2 run to earn a 21-18 lead. The teams scored four points apiece to end the match with Pitt on top, 3-1.
