Panthers Vying for Program-Record Start to ACC Play
PITTSBURGH – The league-leading No. 2 Pitt volleyball team (22-1, 11-0) will look to extend its program-best start to ACC play when Duke (11-13, 4-7) visits Fitzgerald Field House Sunday at noon ET.

A WIN WOULD…
- Extend the Panthers' best start to an ACC season in program history, improving to 12-0. Pitt started the 2018 ACC season at 11-0 before falling at Duke on Oct. 28, 2018 (3-1).
- Extend Pitt's longest winning streak when playing at Fitzgerald Field House to 32 consecutive matches. Pitt's last loss at the Field House came Oct. 22, 2017, against NC State (3-1).
- Improve the Panthers' record to 10-8 all-time against Duke and 3-4 when playing in Pittsburgh.
- Extend Pitt's winning streak against the Blue Devils to two matches. The Panthers' last loss to Duke came Oct. 28, 2018, in Durham, N.C.
- Extend the Panthers winning streak when playing at home against Duke to three matches. Pitt's last loss to the Blue Devils at Fitzgerald Field House came Nov. 13, 2016 (3-0).
- Improve the Panthers' record to 40-2 when ranked inside the AVCA top 10 and 13-1 when ranked inside the top five.
SWEEP CITY
- Dating back to an Oct. 11 win at Syracuse, Pitt has swept its last seven ACC opponents, marking the longest ACC sweep streak in program history.
- At 11-0 in ACC play, the Panthers have won 33 out of 34 sets played, with the lone dropped frame coming at then-ranked No. 23 Florida State (Oct. 6, 3-1).
- Pitt's current streak of seven consecutive sweeps are the most for the program in any fashion since earning eight consecutive in 1991.
DID YOU KNOW?
- The Panthers (22-1, 11-0) are the lone Division I volleyball team to outscore each of their 2019 opponents.
- Despite its lone loss to then-ranked No. 4 Penn State (Sept. 22), the Panthers outscored the Nittany Lions in five sets (26-28, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 14-16), 111-110.
NEW HEIGHTS
- Pitt earned its highest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranking in program history Monday, moving up one spot to No. 2.
- The ranking is the highest ever for an ACC volleyball team. The previous high was No. 3, earned by Pitt in 2019 and by Florida State in 2014.
- The ranking marks the 20th week in program history that Pitt has landed among the top 10 programs in the NCAA, and the seventh week ever in the top five.
- The Panthers are 39-2 all-time when ranked inside the top 10, and 12-1 when ranked in the top five.
- Pitt moved up two spots to No. 5 in the NCAA Volleyball RPI, as released Monday.
LAST TIME OUT
- No. 2 Pitt picked up its program-record seventh consecutive sweep of an ACC opponent, defeating Wake Forest Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
- Pitt downed the Demon Deacons by scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-20.
- Redshirt senior outside hitter Stephanie Williams had a match-high nine kills to go along with three service aces.
- She was one of five Panthers to record five or more kills, including junior right side Chinaza Ndee (seven), sophomore middle blocker Sabrina Starks (seven), senior middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk (five) and redshirt junior outside Zoi Faki (five). Starks posted a match-high six blocks.
- Redshirt senior libero Hali Hillegas picked up a match-high nine digs while freshman setter Lexis Akeo produced 25 assists.
- Pitt held Wake Forest to .014 success hitting while the Panthers posted a .320 clip. Pitt had the advantage across the board, in kills (37-19) assists (34-19), service aces (6-1), digs (35-22) and blocks (7.5-4.0).
SCOUTING DUKE
- The Blue Devils (11-13, 4-7) will put a three-match win streak on the line when they visit Pittsburgh Sunday. Duke's last loss came Oct. 20 at Georgia Tech (3-0).
- Last time out, the Blue Devils picked up a sweep at Virginia Friday night in Charlottesville, Va. Duke registered a season-high .367 hitting percentage with 48 kills and just eight errors and were led by three Blue Devils in double digits: Ade Owokoniran (12), Payton Schwantz (11) and Gracie Johnson (10).
- Duke is 3-3 on when playing on the road this season.
- The Blue Devils are 1-3 against AVCA Top 25 opponents this season, with the lone win coming against then-ranked No. 14 Oregon Friday, Sept. 20 (3-2). Duke dropped matches against No. 1 Stanford (Aug. 31, 3-0), No. 23 Florida State (Sept. 27, 3-1) and No. 25 Louisville (Oct. 11, 3-0).
UP NEXT
- No. 2 Pitt will stay at home to host Georgia Tech (Nov. 8) and Clemson (Nov. 10) at Fitzgerald Field House.
