Pitt Ready for Top-15 Matchup
PITTSBURGH – The 14th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team is set to host No. 3 Oklahoma State Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers picked up two wins last weekend, cruising past then-ranked No. 23 North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
- Pitt first took down North Dakota State Saturday, Jan. 12, 22-11.
- The Panthers fell behind 11-9 after a loss at 165 pounds, but wins at the final four weight classes would secure the dual.
- Seven Pitt wrestlers recorded wins en route to the team victory.
- With the win over NDSU, Pitt avenged its loss to the Bison from a year ago when teh Panthers fell 28-11 at the Fitzgerald Field House. The win also marks the second over a ranked opponent this season.
- Pitt moved to 8-0 after a 34-0 win over South Dakota State Sunday, Jan. 13 in Brookings.
- Four Panthers contributed bonus points in the shutout, including freshman Brendon Fenton returning to the win column with a 14-0 victory at 125 pounds, while junior Demetrius Thomas picked up his ninth major decision of the year at heavyweight.
- Senior Robert Lee recorded his first win over a ranked opponent this season as he defeated SDSU's lone ranked wrestler in No. 17 Henry Pohlmeyer at 149 pounds.
THE SERIES
- The Panthers and Cowboys clash for the sixth time in program history and meet for the third time in Pittsburgh.
- Oklahoma State leads the series 4-1, shutting out Pitt in the last two meetings in 2016 (39-0, 36-0).
- The Panthers lone win over the Cowboys came in the Fitzgerald Field House Jan. 18, 2015 when they won in the final bout, 19-18.
SCOUTING THE COWBOYS
- Prior to taking on the Panthers, the Cowboys will take on West Virginia Friday, Jan. 18 in Morgantown, W.Va., at 7 p.m.
- Oklahoma State ranks third in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll with a 7-0 overall record and 4-0 mark against Big 12 foes.
- The Cowboys concluded the 2017-18 season 13-2 overall and finished 13th in Cleveland at NCAAs.
- Oklahoma State returns four All-Americans from a year ago in Kaid Brock (133 pounds), Boo Lewallen (149 pounds), Chandler Rogers (165 pounds) and Jacobe Smith (184 pounds).
- Nine Cowboys are ranked in their respective weight classes this week by InterMat. Five of those wrestlers are in the top five of their weight class, including No. 2 Daton Fix at 133 pounds and No. 2 Derek White at heavyweight.
- Oklahoma State is led by head coach John Smith who is in his 28th season at the helm of the program. Smith, the winningest active head coach in NCAA Division I wrestling, boasts a career record of 418-62-6.
PUTTING UP POINTS
- Pitt is 8-0 on the year for the first time since the 1975-76 season.
- The Panthers are outscoring their opponents 239-53 and has allowed just one win by an opponent in four of six duals.
- Pitt has successfully avenged all of its non-conference losses from a year ago. The Panthers fell to West Virginia, Bucknell, Clarion, North Dakota State and South Dakota State last season.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers face their first ACC opponent Friday, Jan. 25 in Blacksburg when they take on No. 13 Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
- Pitt returns home Saturday, Feb. 2 to host No. 17 North Carolina at the Fitzgerald Field House at 7 p.m.
