Panthers to Travel to New Hampshire for Quad Meet
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt gymnastics team (2-1, 0-0 EAGL) will travel to Durham, N.H., for a quad meet hosted by the University of New Hampshire (1-1, 0-0 EAGL) Friday at 7 p.m. The Panthers will face off against the Wildcats in addition to Bridgeport (1-5, 1-0 ECAC DII) and Temple (2-3, 0-0 ECAC DI).

MILLER NAMED EAGL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
- Freshman Olivia Miller was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, as announced Tuesday.
- The Monroeville, Pa., native is the 10th Panther in program history to earn the recognition, and the first since teammate Haley Brechwald was awarded the title an EAGL-record six times in 2018. Fellow 2019 Panthers Rachel Dugan and Alecia Petrikis each earned the honors as freshmen in 2017.
- Competing in her first collegiate meet, Miller won the all-around title at the Panthers' season opener Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House. She earned scores of 9.800 on vault and bars, 9.750 on floor and 9.700 on beam to earn first place. Her all-around score of 39.050 is tied for first in the EAGL individual standings.
- Miller made the podium on bars, tying for second place in the quad meet with teammate Lucy Brett. Their 9.800 score is good for a tie for third place in the EAGL.
SEASON OPENER SUCCESSES
- To kick off the 2019 campaign, Pitt posted its highest season-opening team score in program history, recording a 194.750 Saturday in a quad meet at Fitzgerald Field House.
- Two Panthers earned individual titles at the meet, with freshman Olivia Miller claiming the all-around (39.050) and senior Brittany West taking home bars (9.800).
- Additionally, the Panthers competed in front of the largest season-opening crowd in program history, with 1,250 fans in attendance.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Following its season opener, Pitt leads the EAGL and is ranked No. 28 in the nation according to RoadToNationals.com.
- Pitt's average team score of 194.750 is the highest among EAGL schools.
- Freshman Olivia Miller is tied with George Washington's Alexandra Zois for the top EAGL all-around score at 39.050.
- On vault, sophomore Haley Brechwald owns the second-highest score among EAGL competitors at 9.850. Junior Alecia Petrikis ranks fourth at 9.825.
- Senior Lucy Brett and Miller are tied for the third-highest score on bars in the EAGL at 9.800.
- Senior Brittany West is third in the EAGL with a beam score of 9.800.
- Senior Charli Spivey is tied for fourth on floor with a team-high score of 9.850.
EAGL PRESEASON POLL
- For the second consecutive season, the Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the EAGL according to preseason rankings (Nov. 28). Pitt earned 21 points with one first-place vote.
- Reigning EAGL champion NC State was predicted to repeat for the title, earning 32 points with two first-place votes. New Hampshire was picked second, followed by George Washington in third. North Carolina followed the Panthers in fifth, and Towson rounded out the rankings in sixth.
PITT VERSUS NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Friday will be the 71st meeting between Pitt and New Hampshire, with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 51-19.
- The teams met twice last season, with Pitt claiming the first meeting (196.225-195.175) at Fitzgerald Field House (Jan. 20). UNH came out ahead of the Panthers at the EAGL Championship (196.300-195.475).
PITT VERSUS BRIDGEPORT
- The Panthers and Purple Knights will meet for the fifth time in program history Friday in New Hampshire. Pitt leads the all-time series, 3-1.
- Pitt and Bridgeport met for the last time in 2013, with the Purple Knights claiming the victory (195.250-194.875).
PITT VERSUS TEMPLE
- Pitt and Temple will meet for the 31st time Friday at UNH. The Panthers are 31-9 all-time against the Owls.
- The Panthers and Owls met twice in 2018, with Pitt winning the most recent meeting (196.475-194.250). Pitt's team score tied for the second highest in program history.
