No. 8 Pitt Volleyball to Host Seminoles Sunday

PITTSBURGH – Off to its best start to a season in program history, the No. 8 University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (14-0, 3-0 ACC) will host Florida State (7-6, 3-0 ACC) for a 1 p.m. match Sunday at Fitzgerald Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
- A strong defensive effort helped the No. 8 Pitt volleyball team earn its third consecutive sweep of an ACC opponent, winning 25-15, 25-8, 25-13 against Miami Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
- Pitt's defensive prowess held Miami to a negative percentage in the attacking column at -.023, with 22 kills and 24 errors on 86 attempts. The Hurricanes had four players register negative percentages. Pitt had just eight errors of its own on the day, with 31 kills to hit .377.
- Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Lund led Pitt with a hitting percentage of .471 with 10 kills and two errors on 17 attempts. Fellow outside Stephanie Williams followed with six kills and one error on 12 attempts to hit .417.
A WIN WOULD…
- Extend the Panthers' best start to a season in school history, improving to 15-0.
- Extend the Panthers' longest win streak since 1987, when the team won 24 consecutive matches.
- Give Pitt a 4-0 start to ACC play for the third consecutive season.
- Improve the Panthers' home record to 11-0, and 3-0 against ACC opponents.
- Be Pitt's third consecutive win against Florida State, dating back to 2016. The Panthers' last loss against the Seminioes came Oct. 16, 2016, 3-1, in Tallahassee, Fla.
- Be Pitt's third consecutive win when playing against Florida State at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers' last loss when facing the Seminoles at home came on Oct. 24, 2014.
AND THEN THERE WERE THREE
- No. 8 Pitt is one of three unbeaten teams in the country (14-0), along with No. 1 BYU (14-0) and No. 7 Illinois (14-0).
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
- There is a lot on the line Sunday afternoon as No. 8 Pitt and Florida State are one of four ACC teams unbeaten in conference play, at 3-0. The other unbeaten are Louisville (10-4 overall) and Syracuse (7-4 overall).
PITT IN THE POLLS
- Pitt moved up one spot to No. 8 in this week's edition of the AVCA Coaches Poll. This marks the Panthers' highest national ranking in program history.
- The Panthers' top ranking prior to the 2018 season came in 1990 when the squad was No. 17.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
- Florida State (7-6, 3-0 ACC) earned its seventh sweep of the year when it took down Virginia in straight sets Friday night on the road.
- Each of the Seminoles' seven wins have come in straight sets. Florida State has hit above .300 in all of its wins this season.
- Against the Cavaliers, Payton Caffrey led the team in both kills and total attacks for the ninth time this season.
- Pitt is the fifth ranked opponent the Seminoles will see this season, and the second-highest ranked of those teams. FSU holds a 4-12 set record against teams ranked in the AVCA Top-25 this season.
THE SERIES – FLORIDA STATE
- Pitt leads the series between the two teams, 6-5, with both teams' ACC record tied at 3-3 since the Panthers joined the conference in 2013.
- Pitt has claimed the last two matches in the series and holds a 3-1 advantage against the Seminoles when playing at Fitzgerald Field House.
- The Panthers have not lost to FSU since Oct. 16, 2016, in Tallahassee, Fla. (3-1).
- Pitt's last loss when playing against Florida State in Pittsburgh came Oct. 24, 2014 (3-2).
