O’Donoghue, Veltri Net First Career Goals as Pitt Remains Unbeaten

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team remains unbeaten as its four-game homestand came to a close Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

Pitt (3-0-1) saw a pair of players record their first career goals in the outing as both Aideen O'Donoghue and Dixon Veltri found the back of the net.

"We made the decision today to move Aideen [O'Donoghue] up front to start, we were just trying to find somebody else that has some hunger to score other than Anna [Rico]," said head coach Randy Waldrum. "It was great for her to get it. Dixon [Veltri] obviously hitting a long range bomb there for us to win the game was crucial. We had a much better second half performance. We were not great at all in the first half and I was pretty unhappy with them at halftime in the locker room, but the second half was a much more inspired performance and created a lot more opportunities."

Pitt took the lead in the 17th minute after O'Donoghue scored her first career goal on a cross from Taylor Pryce. Jacksonville, however would tie it up just over five minutes later as the two teams went into the half tied at 1-1.

The Panthers would secure the victory as a long range shot from Dixon Veltri rung off the crossbar and into the net, with Juliana Vazquez collecting the assist.

With the victory, Pitt wrapped up its four-game homestand without a loss, as the Panthers will gear up for a tough test in Texas this weekend, facing TCU Thursday and North Texas Sunday.
