Senior Lands on All-ACC Second Team in 3000m Steeplechase
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Kelly Hayes lowered her own school record in the women's 3000m steeplechase en route to a fifth-place finish for Pitt track and field Friday on Day 2 of the ACC Outdoor Championships at Cobb Stadium.
"Kelly ran a very gutsy race," Pitt women's distance coach Adam Bray said. "Anytime you can break a school record it is always a tremendous accomplishment. Words really can't describe the impact that Kelly has had on our group and team. She trains hard and does all the little things to allow her to have this success. She isn't done racing yet this weekend and I'm excited to see her and the other women close out these ACC Championships on a high note."
Crossing the line in 10:18.64, Hayes topped her own record time of 10:22.08 set at the 2016 San Francisco State Distance Carnival. She earned a spot on the All-ACC second team in the event for the second time in her career, and for the first time since the 2016 ACC Outdoor Championships.
On the men's side, senior Billy Caldwell earned a point for the Panthers by placing eighth in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:03.07.
Other highlights of the day included three Panthers qualifying for final events to be run Saturday:
